Hi everyone. Thanks for your attention to my posts and all your interesting replies. Here's something else I'd like to pick your brains on.

I'm wondering what miscellaneous structures you require in your campaign as pre-requisites to actions or as aids to actions. For example, so far my PCs have built:

    - A war college --
This enables them to use the train unit action and also produce an elite unit to guard the capital.
    -- An arcane library --
We're a theocracy and have none of these, so I ruled it is needed to perform research actions for arcane matters. I require 1 level of library per level of spell or level of item you want to research.
    -- Royal Barracks --
I have ruled you can't garrison for free unless you quarter the soldiers, which can penalize realm morale. So I let them use levels of castles + levels of barracks to determine garrison capacity, w/ barracks level capped at province level).
-- A shipyard (to build ships)
    -- Palace (as per rules)

I'm not sure what else will come up in the course of play, as I don't seek to burden them with requirements, but instead enforce realism when I think it adds to the game. So I wonder, what else has been built in your games that adds to the experience. I've also been considering special structures, such as builder's hall to grant a +1 minimum progress on build rolls in affected provinces, but I haven't done so yet.

Oh, and while I'm here, what is the game affect of having a fortified holding, and what's the upkeep for it? I could allow units to be garrisoned there but not sure what else.

As I`ve mentioned before I use a specialty holding system expanded from

Jonathon Doe`s original brainstorming on Birthright-L. You can take a

    look at it at www.geocities.com/lordrahvin/holdings.htm

Even if you don`t want to use the specialty holding system, you might

find inspiration for structures and game effects based on what different

people have come up with. For example, some specialty holdings that you

might find useful to convert to your game are Varsk Ranch (reduces cost

of Vos cavalry), Halls of Justice (increases law claims), Watchtowers

(reveals nearby enemy units), Scriptorium (bonus on Progress actions),

Tomb of the Damned (undead military units), Royal Spa (helps realm spell

casting), and Shadow Gate (summon creatures) and Grand Bazaar (can

    support additional trade routes).

Let me know if it helps at all.

    Fascinating, thanks for the post!

What is this BIRTHRIGHT-L that keeps popping up? When I post to the board am I actually spamming a community? Say it isn't so...

Arjan has linked/merged the BR mailing list with the board so that the two share messages. For those that subscribe to the BR ML they get e-mails of the posts being made and those e-mailing messages get them posted on the boards, hence the Birthright - L signature on the post.

    [obscure Jack Vance reference]

This should be renamed "The Nympharium".

    Sorry, it`s so.

Some of don`t use the boards, but rather use the old BR-Listserve. I believe

that if a person on the BR-L (like me) has an ID on the board (like I do) it

attributes their posts to them. Otherwise it seems to just say "BIRTHRIGHT-L".
