To the D20 Playtest Team, and anyone else who might be interested:
I have designed a revised version of the battle system that I'm planning to playtest this weekend. While I was here, I wanted to make it available to anyone who was interested. It uses the rules in the D20 Playtest book as a basis, but makes some revisions and allows for a bigger map, more units per army on the board, and new Fortification rules and layouts (these last are only in text description. I don't have tools for graphics, unfortunately).
So if anyone out there is interested in taking a look, feel free to drop me an email at "osprey424@yahoo.com" and I'll send them as a Word attachment.

I also included two new unit training types, Skirmisher (for irregulars and cavalry archers, allowing "move and fire" rules) and Stealth (irregulars only). Artillery rules were also revised for more accurate reflection of their abilities.

Much inspiration taken from Medieval Total War™.

    On a related note...

Skip "The Sage" Williams had some interesting things to say IRT his

latest publication, "Cry Havok". Apparently, the 3.0 DMG didn`t

include rules for mass combat at least in part because WotC was

planning for a big push in that direction with Chainmail. Since

Chainmail became more of a skirmishing system (and then was dropped),

he went ahead and created the "3.0 war system" that he would have built

for 3.0. I was very happy with the questions/answers during the "boot

camp" seminar and got a chance to watch a small portion of the demo

game before I had to be elsewhere. My basic impression is that this is

definately something worth checking out. While the basic system is

build around small skirmishes (50-200 combatants), the 196 page rule

book also covers army vs army warfare and nation vs nation warfare.

The book is "Cry Havok" (published by Malhavoc Press). It is scheduled

for an October release (I think that White Wolf / Sword & Sorcery

    publishes Malhavoc`s hardcovers).

Has anyone tried to adapt Cry Havoc rules for BR combats?

That was precisely the tact that Dan was going to approach with the revision of the BRCS chapter he was working on. He was even checking on how much was OGC.
