Hi,
Last turn the Ruins of Empire PBeM accepted several new players.
However, some of those did not deliver their turn, which means that
there are once again a few openings in RoE.
The following domains are available:
Medoere & Ruornil’s Celestial Spell (CN) – Medoere has become part of
Diemed, but as part of the peace treaty the Patriarch of the Ninth
Spell, Altaweir Enlien was invested as the Baron of Meodere. The RCS was
allowed a modest presence in Medoere’s provinces, but is now the vassal
of the OIT. While it is a small realm, it is uniquely suited for those
players who like to interact with other player on the diplomatic level.
It is recommended for new and old players alike.
Bellam & the Berendor Coaster (N) – House Bellam is still vassals of
House Roesone (even if the relationship is a bit stained), but has grown
in strength and importance. In addition to ruing a province, they
control the young and expansive guild called the Berendor Coaster. With
the tension in the area, it is possible to become a major power through
skillful play. This domain is recommended for intermediate players.
Ghoried & the Spider River Traders (LG) – Siele Ghoried, the head of the
Spider River Traders have finally been able to reclaim her family’s
ancestral home in Ghoried. She is now the vassal of the Baroness Roesone
as well as a powerful guildlord. The SRT is a rock solid guild, with
large holdings in many provinces, without being too spread out – ruling
a province is just an additional treat. The SRT is well suited for all
players.
Life and Protection of Avanalae (LN) – The state faith of Elinie has
extensive holdings in neighboring realms as well. This realm should be
extremely interesting, with heaps of opportunities for interaction with
other players. The LPA is heartily recommended, but do require a bit of
skill (including role-playing skills) to play successfully.
The Iron Rider (LG) – Welcome to the marshes, swamps, and rivers of the
Eastern Marches. There is a new power rising in the places where normal
men fear to tread, one which is driven by the need for justice and
revenge. In the power vacuum left by the Sworn Lovers (formerly known as
the Swam Mages) a new regent is fast becoming a power factor in Osoerde
and beyond. Will he be able to grow and prosper with so many powerful
mages bordering his domain? The IR is recommended for intermediate
players.
The Duchy of Tornilen/The Sword Mage (CE) – The infamous and sinister
Sword Mage was one of the three who overthrew old King Tael of Ghoere.
Now he has taken the northeastern part of Ghoere for himself, and pays
only lip service to King Raenech. In addition to ruling a realm, the
Sword Mage is personally powerful and has a very powerful collection of
Sources. However, he also has enemies to but, and an agenda that will
surly make more. The SM is only recommended for skilled players.
I’ve taken the liberty of including as short introduction in the hopes
that potential players might find the game interesting:
”It was in the Year of Blessed Haelyn 1520, that the South Coast
entered a new and legendary era. Never before had this region
experienced such fierce wars, valiant deeds and dire betrayals. To the
west the indomitable Duke Diem made ready to reclaim the lands of his
ancestors. To the east, Diemed’s old subjects joined in a great Alliance
determined to stop him. The names of the regents will never be
forgotten, Heirl Diem – the Conqueror, Teried Roesone – the Black Baron,
Suris Enlien – Voice of the Moon, Moeran Aglondier – the Warlock and
Liliene Swordwraith – the Iron Queen..
It was during Spring that year, that a messenger arrived...”
- from the Saga of the South Coast
The Ruins of Empire campaign started in 1520 HC, or 547 MR for those who
are more familiar with that reckoning. For those of you who have played
BR before; that is 4 years before the official start date of
1524HC/551MR. This shouldn’t matter much, but just don’t expect all
province and holding levels to be exactly the same as those found in the
Ruins of Empire book. Nor should you expect all those familiar NPCs to
behave as expected – many have been given new agendas and personalities.
The first part of the campaign, spanning turns 1 – 20, focused on the
mounting conflict between Diemed on one side and the three realms of
Ilien, Medoere and Roesone on the other, culminating in a great war
between the four realms, which eventually resulted in a stalemated and a
peace treaty that made Medoere a vassal of Diemed. Further to the east,
Aerenwe and her allies became engaged in a war against the evil Duke
Jaison Raenech of Osoerde, in which the Duke defeated a seemingly
endless number of attempts to defeat him. In addition, the enigmatic
and terrible Black Galley Raiders had returned to harass the coasts of
Anuire. At one point they were a real menace, and invaded several
realms, of which Coeranys and Mieres fared the worst. Eventually, the
combined naval might of Mieres and Ilien crushed their fleet and they
fade once more into history.
The second part of the campaign starts in the Spring of 1525 HC, or 552
MR, and will span turn 21-40 (the game is currently moving into turn
30). The game is also expanding from just focusing on the South Coast to
adding and both the Eastern Marches and parts of the Heartlands as
viable regions of play. The main twist is that Jaison Raenech, the vile
Duke of Osoerde has been absolved by the IHH, and has reconciled with
William Moergen, the true heir of the Osoerdan throne. King Tael of
Ghoere is dead, killed by his own vassals, and King Raenech now rules in
his stead. He is quickly gathering allies and defeating enemies, and is
well on his way to becoming the most powerful man in Anuire. Most of the
main themes from the first part also continue, but something sinister
and evil is starting to stir…
There are a host of other things that has passed since the campaign
stared: Medoere and Endier has fallen under the Dieman heel, Moeran
Aglondier is dead and have passed his line to a commoner, Roesone is now
ruled by Teried’s eldest daughter Marlae, Liliene fell fighting the
Shadow and succeeded by her daughter Tasaenae, Elinie and Mhoried is
fighting Markazor, the Mhor is dead at goblin hands and his heir is
still only a boy, there is civil war in Coeranys, Baroness Roesone is
married to King Raenech, William Moergen rule Osoerde as a vassal to
King Raenech, and much more…

What to check it out? Contact me at bjorn_sorgjerd@hotmail.com for
additional information, questions or to apply for a domain. You must
also go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RuinsofEmpire/ and apply for
membership to the yahoogroups site used for the game. Domains will be
handed out around Wednesday 14 January 04. Turn 30 is expected to start
shortly thereafter, with the first turn deadline in the very end of
January of the beginning of February (there is about 1 turn per month,
or slightly less).
Oh, and perhaps a “warning” is in order. The game uses a of house rules
and there is a large amount if background material (maps, domain
descriptions, or turns etc.). Indeed, you can play the game without any
of the BR books available. However, don’t be put of. Everything is
neatly organized, readily recognizable if you’ve played BR before (the
rules aren’t THAT different), and you don’t have to read it all at once.
Well, I’m looking forward to playing with you.
Cheers

Hi,
There haven't been too many applications this time, so if anyone is still interested, domains will be handed out in a day or two.
Cheers
