The Wildlands

Introduction

This game is the mountainous region spanning the border between Brechtur and the Rjurik Highlands. These lands are neatly bordered by a collection of powerful NPC realms, effectively cutting them off from the rest of the world except by sea travel. Certainly no one bar an adventurous fool would try to cross the Gorgon's Crown, Kiergard, and Massenmarch to travel from Dauren to Müden and in the north, the cultural and geographical barriers are just as great. So most travel will be kept within the region, or take place by ship.

Dark clouds gather over the war-torn lands. Armies march to battle once again, answering the ancient call to arms. The banners of noble houses flutter raggedly before the onslaught; some will fall, but others will weather the storm. Across the ruined empires of Cerilia, the dogs of war are let loose. Somewhere on a muddy battlefield, a common man becomes a hero--and a hero becomes a king.

The World:
Three months ago [The Month of Haelynir], on the Eve of the Dead, the night sky turned to day as a ball of fire brighter than the sun came from the heavens and destroyed parts of Brechtur. The lands shook and the seas were violent for weeks after the brilliant light. Wizards at the College of Sorcery have begun to whisper that the sea has swallowed large parts of Brechtur and the Vos lands. Bards bring back tales of other strange things that occurred since that night: schools of dead fish wash up on the shores of rivers and costal cities, springs that were once pleasant are found to be boiling and releasing a noxious odor, docile animals had to be put down after behaving like they suffered from spring fever. These ill omens have created a sense of dread and foreboding among the men of Anuire, perhaps the same feeling pervades the lands of Khinasi and Rjurik?

A huge blanket of ash covers the north giving everything a sickly hue. Temperatures are unseasonably low; many druids speculate that this will be a very long & cold winter.
