The time detailed in the Ruins of Empire book was 551 MR, apparently
during a lull in conflict among Anuirean states, as evidenced by the low
general population levels, few good roads, minimal remaining
fortifications, and, ahem, rediculous numbers of relatively new regents.
The states of Anuire had beaten each other bloody, and were exhausted.

Suppose that, relatively soon after this, the concept of the pike square
was introduced to Anuirean military thought. This formation of
highly-trained, professional soldiers dominated European warfare for quite
some time, only to be later eclipsed by firearms and cannon. But there
aren`t any firearms in BR (yet). So a relatively cheap formation of
soldiers can stand up to the armored tanks of the day, heavy cavalry and
knights. Combined with crossbowmen, another highly effective military
usage which can be rapidly raised and easily trained (much easier than
longbowmen), and there may be a sea change coming in anuirean warfare.
Those that don`t adapt quickly enough will be crushed, as the French
chivalry were at Courtrai

Suppose that, at the same time, the Mhor`s heir, Michael Mhoried, weds by
arrangement Aubrae Avan, uniting two of the oldest houses of Anuire.

What happens next?

The root of a campaign?:

A paladin and heavily pregnant woman present themselves to the newly enthroned PCs in their backwater realm with a letter from Darien Avan himself requesting that she be protected.

Hmm, needs work.

Right after the baby is born some figure enters the stage. Its Ealenor, a women from aduria, she's one of the few direct descendants of the Roeles around. Straight descended from the Roele's Uncle/Siter or whomever. Her bloodline drove her back to anuire where she will reclaim the Iron Throne.

Right after the baby is born some figure enters the stage. Its Ealenor, a women from aduria, she's one of the few direct descendants of the Roeles around. Straight descended from the Roele's Uncle/Siter or whomever. Her bloodline drove her back to anuire where she will reclaim the Iron Throne.

That is if her great, great, great, (I lose track of how many greats are necessary) "uncle", Raesene doesn't get to her first. He is as drawn to the Roele bloodline as a Roele is drawn to the Iron Throne.

What baby? OK, there`s a baby. And this strange claimant from aduria,
but she has no local support, does she? The baby stands to inherit
Mhoried, Avanil, plus the support that several guilds, the WIT, Mieres,
Brosengae, and Taeghas owe the Avans. If they can pick up the support of
a realm that likes the Mhor, maybe Tuornen or Elinie, that`s perhaps the
largest power block assembled since the fall of the empire.

Will Boeruine and Talinie bargain with the goblins of Thurazor for help?
Gavin Tael might do anything, he has Long Life and can afford to be
patient.
