I found a Sierra Originals version of The Gorgon`s Alliance in a bargain bin
for $9. It says it`s for DOS 5.0 or Windows 95, and it won`t install on my
    Windows 2000 machine.

I tried downloading it several months back from a link that was posted on
this list, and got the same result.

I guess it just won`t run on windows 2000, but maybe someone here knows how
    to do it?

    /Carl Cramér

It runs on Windows ME and Windows 2000 and ran on Windows 98 also.

The secret was to NOT have it test for whether there is enough space, operating system, etc. Just skip that step, and jump onto the rest of installation.

Also recommend looking up and downloading the character editor.

I have it running on windows XP.... and it runs PERFECT!!!!

I dont know if it is because i installed the dosbox (link below)
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/dosbox

but indeed skipping the test, and continue did the job. once it asked to install a microsoft games sdk, clicked yes, the directX no... and VOILA!! runnig the game.

I only had problem when pressing F2 for full screen, because 256 color mode isnt an option on windows XP... but if you alter your resolution to 800x600 its almost fullscreen.

    even the adventures work!!!

    have fun

Yes I couldn't get it to run with my "old" machine. It was a 450 and that was faster than the game could recognize, so once I bypassed the tests it loaded and ran with Wind 98. I can get it to run with XP also.:)

    Now there`s a leading question :-)

Assuming that you`re referring to the Sierra game Gorgon`s Alliance, it may
be best to go over the previous messages in this thread, especially for the
links to the patches, the character editor is also useful.

The game itself is fairly good for what it is and gives a newbie a fair bit
of the basics of the BR world and system, but will not run on the later
versions of Windoze without DOSBox, and I cannot get it to work on ME, even
with DOSBox. Seems to work (mostly) on 95 and 98se, but is best with DOS.

On the old downloads page, (or perhaps it was the links) there was a summary
of the help information you`ll need to go with the game.

    HTH,

    Doyle

Did you try DOS install and copying of WINBR.EXE? I think I played it that way on WinME before.

I followed Milos advice, above, and got it to run on windows 2000.

I found adventure mode extremely frustrating (after having played a lot of
NWN) but the realm game was not hopeless. Ten years ago, it must have been a
    blast of a game.

I know this has been asked So many times before, but is there still a link
to the editors and patch around?

    /Carl
