Hello all.
I was just wondering if it was possible to re-create a proficiency from Skills
and Powers Magic: the Signature Spell proficiency.
For those of you unfamiliar with it, basically, for 1 proficiency slot you can
take one 1st to 3rd level spell that you already know and study so well that
you can cast it once per day in addition to any other spells you can regularly
cast. Our DM used the spell point system and signature spells in 2 ed.
as well as S&P.
Anyone have thoughts on this?

Sounds like a feat to me.
I'd make the prerequisites so you must be able to cast 4th level spells - so it's a spellcaster level 7+. If you want to make it harder, or limited to arcane spellcasters, require also Spell Mastery in the spell.
An official feat to the same effect is the Innate Spell from the FRCS. It allows you to cast the spell once per round, at will, at the cost of a spell slot eight levels higher than the innate spell (I find this somewhat harsh, and powerful). It's prerequisites are the Quicken, Silent, and Still spell feats.
A more reasonable treatment is in the Signature Spell feat from FRCS. It requires Spell Mastery in the chosen spell, which you can then spontanously cast (just like a cleric casts a cure spell). I find it much more "signature" like than the S&P option you are trying to convert, but YMMV.

Sounds like a feat to me. Was it originally for mages?
Prereq: maybe spell mastery with that spell?
And maybe an int 2 or 4 higher than needed to cast the spell, OR the
ability to cast spells 4 levels higher than the spell.
That would make it wizard-exclusive, and limit it to lower level spells,
or possibly high-level spells for really smart wizards.
