    Birthright fans,

As promised last month, the BR.net d20 development team will be releasing the first draft of the d20 Birthright Campaign Setting Rulebook at the end of this month (January 2003). The document is currently undergoing final draft formatting for appearance (under Arjan's direction) and should be posted in the near future.

The d20 BRCS draft is "complete" in that in covers all of the areas in our planned scope of activity. The scope of the project is to produce a document that "covers" the basics of the 2e core rulebook, the Book of Priestcraft, the Book of Magecraft, and the Book of Regency. This work does not cover material in the other source books or in the Players Secret books. A second project (the d20 Atlas of Cerilia) is charged with that scope; an announcement will be made with that project begins so that any interested parties can join the design team.

This first version should be considered a "play-test" draft. Portions of the work are unpolished or recently finished. However, due to the strong demand for the work "sooner rather than later" (as evidenced by last month's poll), we plan on releasing the current work as is. There will still be some editing issues in this first release. A freelance game editor has volunteered to proof the work for us (gratis), but this will take some time to arrange. In short, there will be problems with the first draft... lets find them and fix them.

We expect that there may be a lot of discussion regarding the draft. We expect that everyone will find a lot of ideas that they LOVE, and probably many ideas that they HATE (or at least disagree with). Please be equally vocal about each so that a true consensus can be reached. Hopefully, over the next few months, we (as a community) can come to a consensus on what is Good (and should stay), what is Bad (and should be dropped or changed), and what is Ugly (things with no "best" way do deal with, and thus we make a choice and cope).

As the discussions go on, the d20 team members will attempt to take the group consensus on any new material proposed on incorporate it into a second draft (along with all grammar edits, contradictions, or any other problems that are identified). We strongly encourage everyone to make suggestions for changes. Not just general "it should be this way" sort of suggestions, but full write-ups in the same style as the draft. Fully worked ideas that get a lot of support will be included in future drafts. Ideas with little support may be included as variant rules or not included at all. Please don't take such decisions personally; everyone's view of the game world is different and the developers have OFTEN had to ace each other's work. We hope that these efforts have produced something which will prove to be of some value to the community.

I second this. It`s a notable effort to be sure.
To share it publicly is a bold effort that I
    definitely appreciate.
