Itave

Are there any authoritative sources (beyond Blood Enemies) that mention the
Itave? If so, are they a kind of human, or are they some other race?

My own thinking at the moment is to make them an allied tribe of the
Masetians who came over with them, and have remained as primitive to this
day as they were back when they arrived.

I forget if it was Cities of the Sun or Players Secrets of Khourane (probably the former), but the Itave were mentioned to be halflings of some sort. I don't know if this is supposed to be generally known to the Maze's neighbors. I suspect not, though.

One wonders how much Maalvar knows about them, too. They obviously don't need any special protection.

Spot on. In the description of the realm known as the Maze of Maalvar that
they were halflings who came to Cerilia before the creeping darkness
poisoned their old home. Basarji explorers were the first to encounter
them, so knowledge of them is probabaly Uncommon (DC 20).

The Itave were originally thought, mistakenly so, to be natives of Cerilia, living in clans within the valleys of the Maze. Quite possibly these pilgrim halflings were the ones who built the Maze to begin with, seeing that it's design is not that of man, elf, dwarf, or goblin origins, which is populated by scattered Itave settlements.

I believe the Maze is even older than the Itave. Some giantish construction, maybe?
