In writing up some notes for a conversion of the bloodline system to 3e I
found myself wondering about adding new "levels" of bloodline strength. As
a game mechanic, of course, bloodline strength has no actual function after
character generation, but descriptors add a lot of flavor and it`s the kind
of thing that has a lot of appeal for players. What winds up happening is
that in assigning a point value to a particular range of bloodline strength
score for use with a 3e version of character generation the ranges tend to
cut right accross one of the current bloodline strength categories. For
example:

Bloodline Initial
Strength Bloodline
Score Strength
1-6 Tainted
7-12 Tainted

The current ranks of bloodline strength, of course, are Tainted, Minor,
Major, Great and True. I`ve already added for the purpose of my blood
ability acquisition table "Lesser" bloodline strength between minor and
major. Are there any other terms appropriate to describing bloodline strength?

No? I don't know how your system will work, but maybe the strenght can be a part of the mechanics as is the score. In the system I'm using for bloodlines, at least, it is.

How do you use bloodline strength as part of the mechanics for the
score? There`s some info in the BoR regarding how characters can raise
their bloodline strength if they also raise their bloodline strength score,
but it still doesn`t have any game mechanical effects. What do you do
that`s different?

See my post at the thread "Expanding Blood Abilities". There I do a short explain of the way I use bloodlines IMC. It's not much different from the original Birthright rules.

So your bloodline strength determines your "modifier" (+1 to +5) and your
"caster level" (1st through 20th.) I presume the modifier is for various
things similar to the bloodline "ability score" from Travis Doom`s
conversion and caster level is for arcane spellcasting, correct?

I am of the opinion that the strength is far more easy to detect than
the exact rating. This means that most judgements about people`s fitness
for marriage will depend not on rating but on strength.

IM(2e)C I used to give a bonus to NPC Reactions based on the strength of
a bloodline, if the subject was public knowledge.

I thought, an exact rating isn't detectable at all, only the rating. May be you can detect that a major 25 bloodline is less high than a major 45 one, but not the exact number...
