If I were to make Ruornil`s lycanthropes vulnerable to silver, I would
change the damage reduction for Vos. For one thing, since the kind of
characters we`re talking about (barbarians) already have some damage
reduction, some alternate power or immunity seems more appropriate. Plus
there is the whole business of making them both identifiably different.

This is a good explanation for standard fantasy lycanthropy, but this thread
started with a suggestion for using lycanthropy as a Ruornilian theme. From
where I`m sitting, I`d be much more interested in lycanthropic defenders of
sources than I am in traditional lycanthropes. Its nice to be able to leave
a spot for both if possible, and I think it would be just as easy to change
the Ruornilian lycanthrope, but their would need to be differences between
the corrupt versions and the uncorrupted versions.

I would do this the other way. Lyuchantropy is a power
of Vorynn, coruppted by Azrai. But Vorynn still has
power over the corrupt lychantropes; thus they are
vulnerable to silver. Azrai is also associated with
disease, similar to lychantropy in standard DnD.

Pure Vos lychantropes would not transmit the curse nor
be vulnerable to silver. They probably woul have no
damage resistance at all, though, beeing much closer
to natural animals and the chapeshanghers of Erik.

I don't like much things like "all werewolves are evil and all werebears are good". Maybe all the lycanthropys were at first followers of Ruornil, and if it fits the campaign, some of them were corrupted by the Kriesha, Belinik or even Azrai. What I mean is to have not, for example, all werewolves were corrupted and thus are evil. All werebears are pure from Ruornil and thus are good. Some werewolves not evil (still followers of Ruornil) and werebears evil (corrupted)...
But the other way can be done too... at first there were only werebears followers of Ruornil and Azrai created wererats that are evil...

Hmmm. IMC, I used lycanthropy (back in 2nd ed. days) as both curse and
disease, but the local chief was a Karesha-follower, so I could run with this
idea. And yes, he was a were-winter wolf.
While I don`t think a PrC is needed, a warrior society that requires a
bite from the chief as an entry requirement is pretty cool.

Lee.

The only reason I`d PrC it, is because a lycanthrope has bonus powers and
goodies that make his effective level +1 or +2. Making bloodpowers that
mimiced the lycanthrope template is another way to go

How about playing Azrai lychantropes using the monster
rules, and vorynn lychantropes uing the PrC?

I guess that is what U were suggesting all along. :-)

Also there are other prestige classes that basically apply a template to
the character at tenth level. I thought we`d have some kind of
"precedent" or something.

Whether or not we need a precedent at all is another question entirely.
