Some guy`s campaign setting.
<http://www.catspawcomics.com/sept/sept.html>

Set in a fantasy version of 1650 north america. I generally picture
Anuire to be more 1450, 1475, but this guy has a lot of quality material,
and it`s worth checking out. Highlights include fencing styles, for
rapier, sabre, short sword, greatsword, polearms, etc. A variety of
guns, artillery, and grenades, too.

I particularly like the fencing styles, and I`m working on a way to work
them in. He has a fencing feat, which allows a variety of maneuvers with
fencing weapons. Greatsword fencing allows using it as a double weapon,
striking with the pommel. Polearm fencing includes hitting with the
shaft. His fencing maneuvers allow you to attack with a penalty, getting
a specific effect.

For instance, a Beat, smacking down your opponent`s sword with your own:
attack with a -2 penalty. If successful, you deal normal damage, plus
your opponent doesn`t get his dex bonus vs your next attack, and has a -2
to his next attack.

I`m not sure how to work it all in, because he uses a big system of
stacking feats for fencing, which is really only good if your campaign
focuses on fencing to the exclusion of other combat elements. I`m
thinking add a single Fencing feat, and apply the special rules he
includes to any appropriate weapon, which the character has weapon focus
or weapon finesse with. Because really, the greatsword, sword and cloak,
sword and lantern, etc fighting styles he details are pretty cool.

The same kinds of rules could also be used for `blackstrike fencing`, the
BR brechtur style.

Thanks a whole bunch for the Septentrionalis campaign link. I had been
contemplating linking actions to feats as the Andersons have done, but had
not produced anything I liked, and shelved the concept. I really like how
it worked in LUG`s martial arts system, but was actually thrown astray by an
attempt to draw too much inspiration from it. The combat information in
Septentrionalis is very, very nice. I too am enamored of the fencing and
other fighting styles.

If Gary hasn`t checked it out, I suspect he`d like the Inventions chapter.

The chapters on ships, captains and crews and sea battles/adventures are
also very interesting, and might have some relevance to people interested
in converting the BR rules on ships.

Interesting.... For some reason the link didn`t get reproduced on the
message boards.... Here it is again.

If that didn`t get reproduced, the address is
www.catspawcomics.com/sept/sept.html.

Hopefully, that`ll work.

It was getting swallowed by the html on the board because it`s surrounded
by angle brackets.

<Hmm.> <Anything we don`t want the board to see, we can post like this.>

Ah, OK. I`ll try to avoid using brackets in the future. <Unless it`s
something I don`t want them to see.... Heh, heh, heh.>
