I am about to begin my 3rd BR campaign, but never once have I used the published world, rather I use my own world (I learned to DM back in the 70s so I have never used a published world). I am curious to see just how many of you do the same, who uses their own world rather than Cerillia/Aebernys (sp?)?

I haven't given it much thought. But there's no reason why you can't.

Well obviously there's no reason why one can't, I was just wondering if there were any others like me to whom all the Cerillia-specific discussions were mostly irrelevant. IMC every nation on the planet has blooded rulers and true-magic etc. Yeah, its a Sh**-load of work, but in the final analysis I find it far more rewarding an exercise in sub-creation than modifying printed material...it also has the advantage of my players have no way of knowing more than I want them to know.

There have been a few discussions now and then, but not many. Mainly they centre around balance issues, like RP collection if you don't use bloodlines, or fluff issues like the source of bloodlines.
Beyond the book-keeping issues of building up all the nations mechanically I don't see any problems - in a sense I was building a new world when I started the realms of the utter west (a new continent) although that of course kept much of the BR back-story. Similarly the Aduria stuff on the wiki is just world-building without re-doing the gods and all the cultures really.

Yep, you do run into balance issues.
There is some guidance on how to use the Regency rules outside of Birthright, but most of the maneuvering is pretty much up to you. RPGs are more art than science when it comes to doing the balancing act. Even if you use 4e, which tried to mechanically balance everything.
(in fact, thats its biggest selling point -- something I don't like).

I use 2E, so nothing is balanced :)
