In what books can I find the info and ad&d stats for the ersheglien? I would like to have a few powerful good NPC's to explain why the more powerful awnsheglien don't simply walk out and take over a few countries on their own, and why the awnsheglien don't already own all of cerilia and aren't simply fighting over the scraps.

we can assume that for the first thousand years the anuirean empire kept them culled back. the roeles had enough RP for some serious bloodline abilities and would have a strong enough bloodline to ignore the taint of azrai. but in the five hundred years since?

The Eresheglien are listed in "Blood Enemies" in the "other" section. Some are also scattered throughout the various supplements or at least mentioned.

I think the current state of Cerilia represents a point on the
downward slide to rule by monsters.

In the awnshegh book, many of the awnshegh are relatively recent
beings, arrived from elsewhere or relatively young; most of them don`t
have the "long life" ability so they can`t have been around that long.
It`s probable that a generation or two ago, there were many fewer of
them.

The strongest and most long-serving (the Gorgon, the Elf, the Spider)
are focused on Anuire, which would have kept them in check during the
empire.

It seems likely to me that the older and stronger a awnshegh becomes,
the more they are tied to their domain. The king is the land, after
all, so the monster is probably the lair. Certainly the Gorgon never
leaves the Crown; the Spider`s army goes out to raid, but I don`t
think the Spider does.

I think wanting powerful magical NPCs to keep the monsters in line is
missing the point, though. Left on its current track, Cerilia might be
dominated by the monsters in another generation, but the PCs should
derail that train. That`s what PCs do.

While I have to cede the point there, My PC's are turning out to be very... mercenaryish, very neutral. I need something to logically keep things in check while I bring them around to a right thinking, awnsheglien murdering point of view. I need someone else to fight the badies while I arrange for my semi-scion PC's to be royally boned. at the same time I need something which can realistically come to the rescue when they are boned, allowing for that shift in worldview.

If anyone has a list of the good guys it would be greatly appreciated.

The Badger
The Phoenix (on Ghamoura)
The Pegasus - Haeylan's warhorse (in Aduria, I think)
The Golden Unicorn
The Fae (is listed in the Haven's of the Great Bay) in Dauren or Wierech, might be in Kierguard (my spelling might be a little off).

There are others, just not coming to me at the moment. I don't think any of them have stats, just stories about their history and some of their powers. The Fae is one of the exceptions, though they're still kind of vague.

Vague is okay, I just want something that isn't going to force me to rewrite a large portion of the history of the setting in case I delve into that.

Thanks, it's a start.

Check the wiki to see if someone has fleshed them out.

To expand on what Jaleela has already noted:

The Badger is "Borelas the Badger" (BE 116)
The Faun (BE 117)
The Unicorn is "The Golden Unicorn" (BE 117)
Pegasus (BE 119)
Phoenix (BE 119)
The Treant (BE 123)
The Water Maiden (BE 123)
Aurichlacht/The Golden Light/Hap Prechlan Thelma (HotGB 40-41)

BE=Blood Enemies
HotGB=Havens of the Great Bay

Those are the only ones I can think of that are part of the canon
materials, though I could easily be forgetting one or three....

Unfortunately, I don`t think anyone has actually written up stats for
any of these characters. Shameless Plug: In the past, I`ve written
up several descriptions for ehrshegh, and they are going to appear in
the 3rd installment of Legendary Beings. In the meantime, you can
find them in the archives. Search for the Heartwood, the Nightowl,
Ursus and the Zephyr. Those character write ups are complete enough
to use in a campaign.

You might also consider the dragons that live in various Cerilian
realms. They aren`t necessarily "good" NPCs (alignment-wise) but do
work as effective foils against awnsheghlien expansion into the areas
they inhabit.

There are also "blooded" creatures in Blood Enemies (BE): The Black Stag of the Sielwode, a creature that no matter how many times it is "killed" by a hunter, it gets up and sprints into the woods.

Well, If we were stating that one out, I'd say it has the Invulnerability blood ability. maybe the long life ability as well.

Yes, it is assumed to have the Invulnerability blood ability, they just never define what it's bloodline is or if it has any other abilities.

It's a black stag with silver antlers.

I'd note that one obvious enemy to stop the expansion of an awnsheghlien is another awnsheghlien - the Swordhawk for example is pushing against the Gorgon, the Vampire and the Boar. Another is the fact that a new rapidly expanding awnie would quite possibly cause a coalition of realms to form against them (the warlock for example) to wipe them out before they could establish themselves.

I write some notes on the Paladin for the wiki, though there were no stats, and mainly it was to create a heroic woman in Cerilian history to justify some less-than medieval views of women in my campaigns.
