Great work Arjan, one slight moan, my eyes are bleeding - is there a way to change the background - the move from colour to brilliant white is quite stark. :(

I`ll upload/update what`s there. Could you create a Supplements
section like there was before the upgrade? I think a file or three
that are in the other sections might need moving over there....

hehe first it was too dark for many, now to bright :)

i am not totally happy with the design either, but it was the quickest solution after the upgrade.

I actually agree with Andrew on that one. The top background is great, but when we move to the full white, it takes a second or 2 for our eyes to adapt.

Great Job though! And good luck Arjan on pleasing all, you'll soon end up with requests for customizable themes, BTW I would like mine to have... ;P

This is looking good. I too like the top image but I was losing the text in the white people background. That is solved by the black background instead. Mind you, the blue link colour is a little faint for my crt monitor. I'll have to test it at work on a more modern monitor.

Oh, but do we really need to see all the stats for each avatar? For some short messages the avatar cell on the left makes a message longer than it needs to be.

Arjan

hmmm this one is already wider then the old one (which was 933px)
I am afraid making it fluid wont do any good to the usability of the forum

What happened to the tags for forum postings? They seem to make little sense now?

i installed a new version of the thread tagger, and it went all nuts yesterday and tagged all threads up to the max of 25 words from title and posts..
it was already late and didnt feel like going through 80 pages of tags and remove them by hand

i went over the 6000+ tags there were and added somewhat every BR name there is. rebuild the threads afterwards and for what i can see they make much more sense now.

and the funny thing is.. i got everything in english..

You can now ship the items. To see all the transaction details, log in
to your PayPal account.
It may take a few moments for this transaction to appear in your account.

Yep, sometime I'll go through and merge the plurals with the singulars, correct typos etc, just I did for the last version. I don't know whether anyone uses the tags, but if they are there, we might as well make sure they work properly.

Arjan

i can do that in the admin panel. its able to combine certain words..
but it is a hell of a job
for example i already combined things like: gorgon, gorgon, gorgon`s
together into gorgon
so then it doesnt matter which word they use, in the tagcloud it will
only display gorgon

Yeah, whether you intended it or not, being a wiki mod gives me access to the Admin panel, so that is how I did it last time. I have made a start for the first 5 tag pages (plus a few random selections), but I suspect this will be a little more sporadic timewise. I am not sure how the tags are created for threads this time. They used to be from the thread titles plus any defined by authors. This time there seem to be a larger number of tags. This means that if terms are misinterpreted (e.g. humans/elves in a title being listed as a "humans or elves" tag), I cannot correct the tags for the thread as it tells me that the tag limit has already been reached.

Is anyone else finding the blue (links) on the grey background just a little hard to read? My eyes are not the best, but nor is that contrast. Maybe just a little darker color blue, for a little more contrast, or something?

If I'm the only one, then I'm in a clear minority - but "clearer" is usually better, neh?

I am working on a complete new design (back to dark ;) )

but there are many things on my todo list (could use some coding help)

- stripping the discussion tab to forum code from the old wiki-bridge plugin and add it to the new one (could use some coding help .. is really a pain in the ass)
- new design
- new frontpage (most of the blocks are obsolete)
- facebook like chatbar (nice to have)
- upgrade forum to 4.08 (better styling advantages BUT from what i heard/read, it messes up the wiki layout.. grrr)

sigh..

I tried to upload a RAR of "Legendary Beings 1: The Darklords" but
got the same error. However, uploading the RAR split into thirds
worked, so I guess the file size is the problem. I still get an
error "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" when I try to upload graphic

Anyway, the text is back up in the Supplements section of the
Downloads area. You`ll need all three parts to extract it properly.

It`s not that big. 3.91mb for the RAR; 3.99mb for the PDF. I
haven`t tried uploading a smaller PDF, but I don`t think it`s the
file type since the last time I tried to upload a PDF (before the
upgrade and before you included PDF as a file type that can be
uploaded) it gave a pretty clear error message about not accepting
that type of file.

Is there something in the documentation about "Error type 1"? That
seems like it should be something like user account settings, the
file size settings in the download section or the Supplements sub-section.

Gary

Birthright-L
10-24-2010, 09:47 PM
I just uploaded two PDF files (the New Scions text 1.23MB, and The
Blood of the Gods text 1.33MB) to see if there were any problems with
the file types. They uploaded fine. But the 3.99MB PDF for
Legendary Beings 1 still errors out. "Error! The upload failed
(error type 1)."

Unfortunately, I don`t have readily available PDFs between 1.33 and
3.99 MB to experiment around with. However:

Just to see if I could find out where the problem is, I made a RAR
for Legendary Beings 1 that was split into halves, about 2MB each
(1.99 and 1.91 MB each respectively) rather than thirds. They went
up OK. The RAR as a 3.91MB file, however, errors our with the same
message as above.

(I`m going to go ahead and leave the text split in half up in the
Supplements section and delete the thirds since that seems like it`ll
save downloaders a smidge of trouble....)

One quibble with the software (and one that nobody around here can
probably do much about) but in the downloads section when using the
"Manage Files" screen there is a drop-down menu rather than buttons
to push for the various actions: Pin, Unpin, Approve, Unapprove, Edit
and Delete. If one hits the Delete option (which is rather easy to
do accidentally since it`s just a tick under Edit) the system deletes
the file without asking for confirmation. This has a Whoops! factor
of about 9.5....

The delete button when looking at a file itself does ask for confirmation.

but i also noticed an other issue, i am unable to upload an image attachment to a post.. some error about not being able to resize it... (this might also be the bad guy for the download images..) my guess is that the GD lib is not enabled..

No, clearly the Gary Denial libraries are working overtime. :)

GD libraries are libraries used to design graphics and generally help make
cool graphs and charts and stuff. Many image gallery web programs use GD as
a requirement, similar to how modern games tend to require DirectX or OpenGL
libraries for their 3d graphics.

Or he could mean the Golden Dawn libraries, I suppose... you never know...

How is it scaling for you now?

Fixed a couple of things:

Added carousel for spotligts (new block on homepage)
Cleaned code for recent brwiki changes block on homepage (same layout as latest threads)
