Discussion thread for Markazor (http://www.birthright.net/brwiki/index.php/Markazor).
Why on earth is the listed alignment for Markazor Lawful Good?? Even going by 2nd Edition standard, goblinoids were Lawful Evil, and in 3rd Ed, hobgoblins are LE, goblins NE and bugbears ?E.

Becuase the table was copied from somewhere else and no-one fixed the alignment I presume

Everyone knows that Markazor has been pacified and the light of Haelyn and Avanalae shines upon the goblins...that's the REAL reason for the LG alignment. :D

Has there been a final decision here about the name and properties of the un-named province within Markazor?

One fan created Skyewode (http://www.birthright.net/brwiki/index.php/Skyewode) but I don't believe that we agreed that that would be the type of province that the Atlas would define.
You can find discussions on Skyewode and the province in the forum at:

From a quick look at that, the easy solutions are to merge it with the province to the east, run at the Lost Realm per the PC game and/or give the Gorgon Law 1/Guild 1/ Source 4.

In my current game, I've called it Skyrim Peak. The Oaken Grove controls the temples there.
Can we have a quick discussion on the matter in just one place? With a few logical suggestions and then picking up the most reasonable one. The one with Skyewode just doesn't sit right with me. This one man bend who is an elf, but not actually with the elves, in the middle of everything just pretending to be a badass and spoiling everyone's business by simply being there and doing nothing.
In the campaign I've played this was some Markazor province that I've conquered in the name of Tuarhievel, thus connecting with Mhoried and strengthening our borders for Gorgon's impact. Didn't have a name, but we can always call it Reymylirid or Reysland. Any connection with a living BR character is purely coincidental. :D

I'd suggest having it as a goblin/ogre/troll realm and placing skyewode somewhere more useful - a single elven province would not be able to hold off the Gorgon in any event. I think it is called The Black Forest in Roe, and from recollection the Lost Forest somewhere else.

My own suggestion would be to simply include it as a normal part of Markazor since it was outlined within the borders of that kingdom.
It just needs a name and holdings assigned along the same lines as those already existing in Markazor.

What about a small gnoll theocracy where gnolls instead of Yeenoghu worship Azrai? It could be funny.

The "hidden province" has always struck me as an opportunity to throw
in a new er-/awnshegh who has magical powers (a variant of the
Warding realm spell) to prevent anyone from entering his land.
I was working on a character called The Seer, but I didn`t much care
for the direction it was going. If there were a secretive,
isolationist character in that province, any ideas what s/he might be like?
Certainly could be some nice story behind it all, but let's not jump overboard. Something simple and short, but kinky. Like... Vos wizards. The good Vos guys who still practice old ways since before Deismaar. Unblooded, so they can't tap sources.

How about Strahd Von Zorovich's domain?
The fog surrounding his lands could be, as someone mentioned, a blood-line power that not only keeps out any who enter, but kills those that try to leave. Perhaps the land is simply cursed instead of Strahd. Because of him not being Blooded, the land by default chose another to rule it, and so the Goblin King controls the land now because the land wills it so. There might be no blooded characters in all of the province actually...the Curse might actually drain their power (say a bloodline point per week) and so Scions feel entirely uncomfortable even trying to enter the land.
Lots of things could work out I suppose...sounds fun for me in a home game though!
Surely there are "common" vampires in Cerilia as well as THE Vampire.

It is an idea. One Birthright version of Strahd has already been added to the wiki at http://www.birthright.net/brwiki/index.php/Count_Strahd_von_Zarovich. It was used instead of the Vampire.
Vorostokov (Shadow World) (http://www.birthright.net/brwiki/index.php/Shadow_World_Vorostokov) was also created by someone and that could be an alternative if you want a cursed land. There is also a less cursed version of Vorostokov (http://www.birthright.net/brwiki/index.php/Vorostokov), but still ruled by a werewolf-like Awnie. Both are placed in Vosgaard but you can adapt them for your campaign. Of course, here we are talking about defining this province in the Atlas, not individual campaigns.
Didn't someone already try to introduce Strahd Von Zarovich in play instead of the Vampire?
I'm sure it's the least of the problems, but can we not use the signature characters (names) from other settings?
Albeit the rest of the idea is a thumbs up.

I just named it and made it a normal part of Markazor with holdings by the appropriate folks.
However, for the tabletop game I am prepping to run I am working out an idea of making it the personal fief of a minor awnshegh vassal of the Gorgon. I'll be calling it the The Shadow Wood (probably) a province 2/7 that will be be the stopping grounds for the nefarious assassin, trickster, and all around neer-do-well The Redcap.
Few of the other threads on Skyewode mention the name of Bryan Ruther as the author of the province writeup. But on the page it says that author is unknown.

I wiki'd Skyewode as part of a mass-conversion of existing br.net pages, and didn't take the time to dig into their background much which is why I missed the name off. I've added Bryan's name, let me know / update it if I missed anything else.
