I don't think Caercas should have its own coat of arms because it is a baronial demesne. Since the current coat of arms obviously symbolizes the Castle Blacktower, it should be arms of Proudglaive instead.

True, but the Castle Blacktower that is featured on the current arms was built after the foundation of the barony.

Caercas is the old Andu word for highcastle, and it is stated that the current Blacktower is built on the ruins of older fortifications. The current Blacktower, however is not a tower. Its a concentric castle, which is a high medieval style of castle building. One might presume that some of the old fortifications that once stood there of the motte and baily style, and perhaps originally the keep here was actually a tower, the oldest form of stone castle (the wooden fort having other antecedents). Residential towers were a common defense in the post-Carolingian world. Two or three stone towers as final hold-outs for the lord and his family and followers. The people left on their own.

So, given the long history of Anuire, I suspect that at one time there was a residential tower on the hill where Blacktower now sits. Perhaps it was a motte and baily with a tall keep. Whatever the original Blacktower, its the source of the heraldry, not the current concentric castle.

The family however probably says otherwise publicly - such a fine fortress to be represented on their arms! Hearken ye to their might!
