I was bored today and started to create a Excel worksheet that will randomize the weather throughout the BRCS for a whole year.
My requirements:
Allow the DM to view it by Region and Month. (Done)
Provide the temperature in Farenheit or Celsius (Done)
Provide the special days and holidays (in progress)
Randomize the weather for the year (in progess...See below)
Allow the DM to set weather variables, i.e. How often it rains, storms, and the average temperature. (Done but see below)

I decided that the overall weather would remain close enough to use the pre-determined areas of each region for a base. For example:
Anuire
The Southern Coast
The Western Coast
The Heartlands
The Northern Marches
The Eastern Marches
Brechtur
The Western Reaches
The Overlook
The Western Basin States
The Eastern Basin States
Khinasi
The Plains States
The Zhainge Valley
The Drocandragh
The Island States
The Basarji Islands
Rjurik Highlands
The Taelshore
The Northlands
The Wild Lands
Thaele
Vos Lands
PC Lands
NPC Lands
The Feral Lands

I would guess that if the Southern Coast of Anuire is getting a light rain it would cover Diemed, Medoere, Roesone, Aerenwe, and Mieres within the same day. It could be a big rain storm over the whole area or one that is moving through the realms over several hours.

What does the rest of the group think about this?

This sounds brilliant! I've thought about doing something similar myself and considered using the regions you mentioned as the basis of 'local' weather results.

I'd eagerly take a look at anything you'd like to share!

File Added under the Character and Domain sheets area.

Named Weather v0

Please take a look and if anyone there knows Excel or VBA I could use some help on the second month routine for Anuire. (Excel will not allow me to reuse the Array for this month but it will allow me to reuse it for the first month as many times as I want. I'm a programmer but I didn't say I was a good programmer!;))

Let me know what you think of my idea in general and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I once added a local weather report to BRnet for the capital city of anuire.
What I basically did is I looked up the weather database of San Francisco,
and put the whole weather of a year range into a database.
With a script I displayed it on BRnet, looking like a normal weather flow,
but not totally random.

If you want, I can still provide you with the data since its still in the
database.

Cheers
Arjan

I would be very interested in your results. I used to have a lot of fun with the WeatherMaster program from MilieuSim. Sadly, it is no longer supported, and my Vista PC can't/won't run it. It may become freeware, and someone will update it, but I won`t hold my breath.

Anyway.

The beta test has been posted in the downloads area for a couple of days now. I'm now looking into modifying it to use the weather bands from D20 (Warm, Moderate, Cold, etc...) I'm also adding a worksheet with the weather details from D20 for easy DM reference. Hopefully building a single spreadsheet that will have the weather for the entire world (5 main regions) and all (or most) of the D20 rules for handling the weather.

I woiuldn't suggest using the weather of southern California as a basis for "normal" weather. Their weather is notorious for being the most stable and reliable in the world, as well as their weather being only slightly cold for a couple of months each year.

Southern Cali weather would fit for Khinasi and maybe the Anuire Southern Coast. Vosguard, on the other hand, wouldn't get weather anywhere near as nice as that.... hmmm, Northern Canada weather for Vosguard?

SoCal has so-called Mediteranean weather, mild winters, scrub forests, dryer than average for human habitation, but with irrigation, ideal for human food crops. Its actually a pretty rare climate type. I describe the south coast of Anuire and Khinasi east of the Zhainge River as "mediteranean", and so similar to SoCal weather.

Anuire would seem to be like France in that its climate is mediteranean on the south coast, but by degrees turns colder and wetter, until you cross into English (Taelshore) weather, warmed by the currents the way western Norway is warmed, then as you go inland, colder and colder. Both Halskapa and Dhoesone might be more Scottish in their weather.
