Custom Warcards

[Nameless One]

Here are some custom warcards I managed to recover from my old collection. None of them are my work. If someone recognized the warcards as his work and wants them removed from this post, please tell me and I will remove them as soon as possible.

The first one is from a website that had several warcards for a couple of quite logical units. I remember there were Anuirean Crossbowmen, but the Knights of Avanalae are the only one I managed to find because the LPA player in my game created such a unit.

The next one is for Tuornen Home Guards. Obviously a black-and-white version of Elite Anuirean Infantry with details altered by hand. It could use some colors ;) I found it on a player website for Tuornen, and it was the only one there.

The rest one are from a webpage called Manni's Warcards. I managed to find the address in Birthright mailing list archive, but the site is down. I remember it had a lot of warcards that just wouldn't fit in my vision of Birthright, like Fire Elementals, so I have only the part of Manni's works that I used in my game:

I generally play small. PC's are jarls, not kings. PC's struggle to advance a single domain, not to re-establish the empire, or impact a whole region. And so, I also generally do the same in battle, focusing on smaller combats, or parts of a combat. As such I have always enjoyed using the skirmish rules, and then house ruling them. The release of Heroes of Battle gave me another opportunity to do this, based on material there.

The link above includes the skirmish counters and some comments on their use in my game. The images are from the warcards, though as the two previous posts indicate, I fiddled with some of them.

Created this Warcard today, using my own Birthright-inspired artwork.

This Warcard was mainly inspired by Erik's Forest Legion (Birthright: The Book of Priestcraft) after Thelandrin pointed to me that original artwork of this Warcard seems more in theme with Erik then of Sidhe.

This Unit consist of a single sentient Earth Elemental, that is summoned via powerful Druidic Realm Spell. Keeper of the Grove is strong, huge, resilient, and fearless entity, that can hurl boulders over the battlefield.

EDIT:
Optional rule for the Keeper of the Grove in order to tone it down a bit and to depict it's integrity/mass loss when it hurls boulders (it's body parts); Whenever Keeper of the Grove use it's Missile Attack, they suffer one automatic Hit. In this case it would be better to rise its Missile Attack rating a bit; like Missile: 6 / Missile: 4 (1 Hit) / Missile: 2 (2 Hits).

Slightly off-topic, but related to Warcards...

I always considered that movement of Artillerists should be slower than of regular Infantry, so I used movement for Artillerists seen on Erik's Forest Legion warcard; Move: 1 per 2 rounds.

And I always thought that rules should let someone charge at Pikemen Warcard, so I changed "Pikemen cannot be charged." into "Pikemen get double Attack if charged."

Other notable changes:

Undead Legion: Defense: 3

Sidhe warcards: Have scouting abilities...

I made a quick colorization of it, and changed and/or added some details, including background. Original sample was low quality, so it didn't turned out well, but since I wasted like an hour or so, here it is...

PS: I didn't changed it's statistics in any way (although I think that it shouldn't be as strong), but used Shield marker rather than Crossed Swords one, since I used already prepared Warcard primer...

Since I have created Keeper of the Grove warcard, and it is used via Realm Spell, I decided to create the Realm Spell as well.

Keeper of the Grove
5th-level Caster

Sphere: Earth (Elemental)
Regency: 5RP / Unit
Gold: 1GB / Unit
Req'd Holding: 1
Duration: 1 Domain Turn

Only Druids of Erik may cast this rare Spell. By calling upon Erik, the Druids call forth the powers of the earth, awakening the Keeper of the Grove.
Only one Unit can be summoned per Holding level, and those Units cannot leave the Province where they were summoned.
One Keeper of the Grove Unit consist of a single huge sentient earth elemental (10HD).
Keeper of the Grove also fortifies the target Holding for the duration of the Spell.

Regarding its statistics; well I had in mind a special goblin cavalry unit for Spiderfell (similar as special knight units in Anuire, like Knights of Haelyn), so it would have higher stats than Wolf Raiders...

If anyone gonna use em in their campaigns, I would appreciate some feedback very much. Although, stats seem balanced to me, considering both Keeper of the Grove and Spider Raiders are special units; still nothing can beat results taken directly from community members play-testing.

Hello everyone.
Im not the biggest writer in here. but i do read and use the wiki alot. Both for me and my fellow players and DM.

So i thought i could contribute with my homemade warcards. Some are nice (i think so atleast) and some are not so nice. ive uploaded them all.
Feel free to use any if u like.
they shud be 10,2 cm 300 res/inch. 5,8 cm 300 res/inch.
But some old ones (just after i started making) they are wrong size. but i can see that on a preview.

I got photoshop cs3 files for them all if anyone cares and are interested.

I do not own the picturerights used on the cards. But its for personal use and such so im guessing im clean. Most of the backgrounds ive had to make myself. And all u see is mostly custom.

Ive used about 3 years on these, and are still makin new ones. The Khinasi units are only a couple days old =)

i would love to hear from you if u are intend to use them or modify.
We play 2nd edition and i love to make characters that are battlewise and have strategy and war as primary goals. And i make some units just because i wanted to. Then print em and give em to the DM so he can use em as he see fit. (the other players in the group hates me because i smile when we face superpowered units aka undeads or such.)

There is a story behind alot of these units and we got alot of customrules.
Like masshealing and such (har a moradin dwarf priests who made war based on religion) and for instance Belinik paladin with a own church called the Sword of belinik.

Even played a shapeshift character and had accsess to Tigers, eagles, bears and such.

Have fun. And please comment with your opinion. Be honest but not rude =)

And if u have customcards please post em. i love to see others :D (if anyone makes ones? this is a old thread and some are nice.)

Btw ive used some futuristic pictures. animated. realpictures. drawings. paintings and u name it. And i would say all works nice printed.

I use a canon all-in one printer. And bought paper that are glossy on ones side and matt on the other. They are small and pretty stiff (the stiffest my printer can print) so we just cut em with a slider (?? dont know the english word. but u lay the paper on it and just pull a "knife" thru it)

And dont give me crap about my english in the units or in the post. Cause i am norwegian and most of my time i play WoW and the english in there are not teh shit :P

All units have 3 different ones. Flag, Sword and Shield. but 72 pictures is enough dont need 200. If anyone requests i can upload with another.

Very nice, though I am a little perplexed by your choice of pictures sometimes. For instance, Elite Rjurik Guards (http://img687.imageshack.us/i/rjurikeliteguardsfronts.jpg/) represented as 15th/16th century knights on armoured horseback? Not how I would picture Rjurik elites. Likewise, the Priests of Moradin (http://img39.imageshack.us/i/priestsofmoradinfrontsi.jpg/) look very devout but a little taller than I would expect dwarves to be.

Was there a reason in your campaign for these choices of images or were they just all that you could find that was suitable?

Well. After so many different units its really hard to find a suitable picture.
I was goin to mention the rjurik unit. But i forgot it.
That unit was a gift from anuire with trained rjurik with methods from anuire. Training, weapons, horses etc. It was intended to make only a couple of those for the big rjurikrealms.

Hehe yeah the priest of moradin unit.. Well Picture aint optimal. But it shows non-violent priests. Its super hard to find a picture with alot of dwarven priests in a group with robes :P And i didnt manage to find a more suitable picture.

I see it as this. Its better to have 10 different units and have a variety of humanoids, humans demihumans etc. than to have 1 good lookin one.

Atleast for my part it takes alot of thinking and researching to make a unit.

Some are well thoughtthru and some are not =)

I know this is an older post, but I like the custom units I have seen so far. Some pics were a little out of place for sure, but they all looked good. In all I say very good work on all accounts.

Just a question Aldrin, Whats the BattleXP and ScholarXP on some of the cards. I have a guess, but thought I would ask.

Anyone have any templates for cards set up? I have Paint Shop Pro 9 kicking around somewhere and may take a try at some cards of my own in the near future. I have some ideas for a game I plan on running and the idea of having actual cards for the battles would make it more fun i think.

Hmm, I don't appear to have commented before to show my appreciation, and think I may have missed many of Aldrin's posts, probably due to one of my recurrent connection problems, but awesome work all. :D

We seem to have lost the early pictures, probably as part of the crash a few months back, if anyone downloaded them it would be great if they could be re-uploaded.

I think I can see everything in this thread. Are you meaning lost from the Downloads section or somewhere? I don't think they were put anywhere else.

when I look at the first 3 posts there are no pictures / warcards in them - just text / nothing.

Ahh, right. I see nothing there either. No sign that there was supposed to be something.

But I have found the reason. The first picture was at Geocities, which is no more thanks to its owner Yahoo's decision. I suspect it is the same for the rest.
