View Full Version : Which part of Cerilia do you prefer to set your campaign in?

And why? Does any other part of the continent appeal to you? What gives some parts of Cerilia greater appeal than others?
(Apart from not owning the proper books, that is.)

I really like Brechtur. I'm not sure why I prefer it, it just appeals to me more.
How's that for a non-answer.

Rjurik.......Cause I like Norse-named Celts!!

I like all of them, yet end up qith Anuire more often than not. Must be a lack of imagination. In fact, I almost always wind up playing on the Sourth Coast or on the West Coast. Boooring ;)

I voted for the Rjurik highlands for the simple fact that it is theonly place I have played in so far. Not much of a real answer for ya though. To be completely honest though, I am intrigued by the possibilities of intrigue that the more southern realms have.

Personally, I prefer playing in Anuire or Khinasi. Brechtur is interesting too, but I see it more as a frontier than anything else.

I personally prefer Anuire. Its the easiest region for players to grasp and role-play properly. It seems to be quite a difficult task for people to role-play a culture they don't understand and can't relate too. Especially the Khinasi!

I would have to agree with Lawgiver not to mention I have the books for Anuire and not for the rest.

I voted Brechtur, largely because of the naval and cold-weather action. I also really enjoy the economy games I can play there.
I haven't been able to play Vosgard or Khinasi, but would like to try at some time.
Rjurik and Anuire are both fun as well, but Anuire is kind of boring.
Plus, I think its fun to be challenged with role-playing cultures that I may not be able to identify with as easily, it gives me a reason to learn in the process.

Which is it Gargamel? Is Anuire fun or is it boring?

Anuire is fun, don't get me wrong. However, I like to switch things up every now and then. It is during these periods that I consider Anuire boring. This is mostly because of repitition of playing in Anuire so much. Anywhere can be interesting if you put your mind to it, but I like the overall region of Anuire less than I like the other regions.

So, if I understand correctly...
Anuire is fun until it is boring then it's not fun. But it's only boring until it's fun again.:P

As a player I would say Anuire, but as a DM I prefer Vosgaard.

I would say I enjoy Anuire the most. Khinasi is enjoyable for its distinction in culture.
What I mean is all except the vos are basically european in flavor while the vos are Russian/cossack IMO. The distinct difference in beliefs & culture make them fun to interact with

I think he's been in his cottage in the forest playing with little blue guys a litte to long. That or he ate too many of the wrong minerals(from his qutoe)...

I dont know really which one I prefer more... I've been partial to both; Anuire is good and all, but seems rather "dry" culturally but maybe thats just perception. I've actually always liked bringing Brecht characters into ruling Anuriean domains.
Well, that was always my plan. :):P

So if so many people like the Rjuven highlands then why aren;t any of you joining the Shadows of the Blood campaign?

Get to it man, We need more action in the highlands.
I personally like the Brecht setting. How can you go wrong with Tower ships eh?

I love the Tower Ships... I've always really enjoyed the Brecht setting... especially playing either a Guilder or a Rogue. Very fun. :)

Guys , i really think that Rjurik is something that suits very much the whole setting. The scenery , tha realms , politics...many challenges for the PCs and small in size.I think it's ideal for a good , average size PBEM...

I went with Anuire. I picture it as something between France and England so it was not too hard for me to get a feel for how it would play.

I have been lucky enough to run campaign games in every region but the Vos lands. To me, the Khinasi lands are the most interesting.
The region haves more than its fair share of awnshegh and the nefarious agents of the Serpent are great antagonists. The lands have widely varied environments, desert and jungle being unique to the area. The distinct difference in culture is fun to roleplay (sayim especially), a nice change from the usual medieval European society.

i led my players into the burrows, discarded the halfing society, and created a "new" domain for that.
from there i could enter every region i wanted, bretur, khinasi or vosgaard. the players like it alot

Every region of Birthright is attractive to me as a place to set a campaign. However, Anuire remains the easiest for a typical gaming group to envision. Plus, Anuire has a lot of great adventure hooks that the other realms lack, such as the Imperial City.
The Heartless Wastes strike me as a tough place to begin a campaign, but potentially one of the most rewarding of all.
I like that they detailed Anuire more than the other realms, and left some areas open for the DM to decide what's really going on there.

When we first stated playing in the birthright campaign about 2 to 3 years ago I played a Brecht mage. He was very nationalistic and always talked up the brecth way of life. It just stuck when it came time for me to run my own campaign. Not only that but I am a huge H.P. Lovecraft fan and the Kraken and all the little costal towns make it like Innsmoth all over the nation. That is why I chose to run my games in Brecthur. In the future I will try the Voslands but that is way in the future.

For me, as a D.M. its the Highlands. So many of the countrues are on the brink, its easy to start a kindom there. But as a Palidin loving player i like Anurie.

I like the Khinasi flair, that's why I prefer it. Dschinn, flying carpets, civilisation ;) and so on. I like also to play in Anuire and Rjurik. The only campaigns I don't want to play in are Brechtür (to confusing) and Vosgaard (to barbarian).

Too bad you forgot to include the Shadow World in the poll. Regardless of where my campaigns start, my players always end up there at some point of the adventure. And they NEVER want to enter the Shadow World again :) .
Maybe I´m too obsessed with Lovecraftian horror...

I like Brechtur, mainly because there's plenty scope for sea combat, which is really cool. And there's more to do there than just fight, e.g., exploratory trade, trade chain etc. I just love the economic part of Brechtur.
Having said that, I too am partial to Anuire mainly because the politicking there is especially intense! And when it stops and the armies start marching, the war is usually on a massive scale!

Humm, I guess I like all of them ;)
Though I don't know Khinasi because I don't have Citadels of the Sun (or something like this)...
But my vote will go for Shadow Lands, but for diferent motives than Kappenkriaucheran - I like "dream" stuff and fairy-tales. It's high fantasy but not as vulgar as Forgotten Realms.

hmmmm being on of the few gnoll lovers I know of, I prefer the overlook region which is half brecht, half vos, followed by the khinasi for that reason, as I result I'm not sure if I should say brecht or vos, as the gnollfells while technically in vosgaard, are far more aimed at brechtur
