I'm curious, do people see the dwarves as magical beings (like the sidhe) or near-human folk who just happen to like living undergound?

If you see them as more magical, what sort of changes do you make to differentiate them from humans?

For example:

Sidhe: Gracile form of human, Immortal, unnaturally beautiful, wild emotions, low birthrate, love of magic, and in some campaigns only: no interest in non-useful material wealth, not ambitious, able to subsist on magical energies of the woods, immune to most natural diseases, don't build many structures, innate magics, partially outside normal time, claustrophobic/unable to be restrained.

Dwarf: Robust form of human, long lived/immortal, squat build with denser flesh and bones, slow but intense passions, highly communal, low birthrate, rare magic, high technology particularly in mining and metalcraft, able to subsist on dirt (standard BR adaption) and in some campaigns: subsist on magical energies of the raw earth, meld into rock after death, able to grow food in underground caverns via skill/magic, live miles underground, agoraphobic, vulnerable to light, etc
