I have noticed that many sites are sponsored by x product. I see no problem with that, but I am sick an tired of windows popping up, telling me about some great product I NEED to buy. So far I have been more or less able to avoid them, as I mostly brows RPG-related sites and they tend to be "above" that. But to my horror!!! I was "attacked by not one, two or three popup windows, but four, when I went to www.birthright.net (does it look familiar?). I cannot force my opinion on you, but I would strongly BEG of you to disable those immediatly! If I want advertisements for a Boyband or a new xxx I can go to other parts of the internet.

So please...

Is it possible you had more than one window open and were browsing different sites?

I know that I frequently have several browser windows open, and if one site has pop ups, then it will often appear on my screen regardless of which window I am actually currently viewing.

There are no pop ups on Br.net. This is private space.

BTW, there is a small program out there for freebie download that kills pop ups. It is basically a javascript thingy ma do that keeps 'new browser windows' from opening.

Check Two Cows or something for a thing called "Pop Up Stopper" if you are interested. I've tried it, and it works.

It sounds to me like the type of internet service you are using. I have never had a pop up window.

I have also never received a popup window when I was on the birthright.net site. In support it is usually the only window I have open at the time. So my guess is that your provider may be running a stream along with your access if in fact you only had one window open at the time.

The only thing i am very proud of is that this site has NO banners/popups or whatever. I hate them myself and swore not to place any on BRnet.

the only links to other sites here on BRnet are the links under afiliated sites, thats all you guys are going to get from me.

probably you went to a site where a "on winclose" function is build in. when you leave that certain site it activates a javascript from where you get all these popups.

I am thinking of implementing a amazon alliance in where i am going to offer DnD books through a sidebar.

that way i was thinking to see just a little money back from all that i have spend on BRnet the last few years.

i would like to have everyones opinion on that.

If you are going to do it please don't take up space on the horizontal plane. those of us with small monitors already suffer from narrow screens. A banner at the top or near the bottom that isn't too obtrusive would be tolerable. But please no pop-ups or banners that run down the side of the screen.

Definately no sidebar and I hate advertising on every page. However, put it as a pull down on the top of the screen next to affiliated sites and it would be ok.

or maybe a seperate page with all books on it? so that you have to go there yourself, and you wont get bothered by the sitebar

Well, I too hate addies, and the only pop ups I like are the kind where you click on the link to open it. No spawning either. Spawning is the devil.

Anyway, I think that your idea to the Alliance is a good one Arjan. I have a small resolution (I'm getting old and blind ya know!) so I need that larger text. I would swallow a horizontal addie though.

This is a nice site, and I say you ought to get your cash back anyway you can. A pull down to a seperate page would be my preference, but you aren't likely to get so many hits on it that way either. I'm not sure what the conditions of the alliance would be, but I'm sure they would want their name and/or logo splashed about as much as possible. Even placing it on the bottom of each page?

The short is, this is your site Arjan. Your cash. Put it where you will make money at it I say!

Listen to me... I sound like Guilder Kalien.... ;)

While I hate pop-ups and the streaming adds if you need to make cash to keep the site going I say do what you need to do. I would still prefer a seperate page or pull down.

I'd vote for pull down or seperate page.
