Hi all-

I was reading the Ruins of Empire book last night, and came across something odd.

The Gorgon is stated to be a 2000 year-old creature. However, the Battle of Deismaar was only 1524 years ago (default start date for the setting is 1524 HC).

In addition, the last paragraph of the `Anuirean Book of Days' section in the same book says something similar. To paraphrase- `it's nearly 2000 years since the gods sacrificed themselves... current year is 1524 HC'.

Something is amiss here.

It's probably a rhetorical device used by the authors, rather than an actual contradiction in the text.

I just used the 1524HC figure as what sages and historians know from their studies, and the vaguer "two thousand years" as the folkloric record known to the commoners.

It could be. I just wonder because the Gorgon being 2000 years old is mentioned in a number of places. I recall one such line describing the Gorgon (paraphrasing) "... like only a 2000+ year old being can...".

Wanted to make sure i wasn't missing something.

Rounding error. Cerilian mathematics isn`t very advanced. ;-)

Nah, they just round in millenia; after all, standard rounding expects you to round 5s to the closest even number, unlike the "non-scientific" rounding that rounds 5s up. :p
