Hi all,

I read the Birthright Campaign Setting Rulebook on page 76 and saw the Priest of Ruornil's special abilities that includes "1) Spell abilities of a magician of half the priest's level (rounding down);".

The Book of Priestcraft's page 63 expands this stating "1) Spell abilities of a magician of half the priest's level (Note that scion and regent priests do not gain the spell abilities of a true wizard of half the priest's level. Only the magician skills are gained, regardless of whether the priest if a regent or scion.)"

I tried searching birthright.net's forums and various Birthright books and didn't find any clarification on the precisely meaning of "spell abilities of a magician".

Does this mean a 7th level Priest of Ruornil with a 16 Wisdom like Altaweir Enlien would get his own Priest spell slots (3 1st level spells, 3 2nd level spells, 2 3rd level spells, and 1 4th level Priest spells plus an additional 2 1st level spells and 2nd level Priest spells for having a 16 Wisdom) and also gain the additional spell slots of a 3rd level Magician (2 1st level and 1 2nd level Magician spells with no bonus spells)?

Also, would the same priest need to learn and then keep spell formula in a Magician's spellbook?

Thanks,
Ardan

I am not sure, but suspect that you are right.

It is another set of abilities independent of the regular priest spells. "Spell abilities of a magician" means everything that comes with that: progression, requirements, limitations, etc. In some ways you can think of it as a multiclass.

Good language there Fizz. That's what we'll use.

Thanks both for your time.

Ardan.
