So I noticed some links and stuff on the wiki have become broken recently, and there have been other formatting issues, and errors on certain pages. I made an account to check if everything was alright. I also noticed the site doesn't have encryption yet which is pretty easy to add with modern hardware.

Does anyone know what's going on? If y'all need help covering server costs, or adding encryption let me know. This is a great resource and I don't want to see it die.

An example of a link I used to use that slowly degraded and stopped working: http://www.birthright.net/brwiki/index.php/Main_Page

Thanks a ton!

Hi,

Thanks for your concern. A number of years Arjan changed the setup to make the forum and wiki work on a similar system within a common forum structure, so some links might just be missed in the update. I know some of them are in the breadcrumbs up the top of some wiki pages (especially for the BRCS links). Where have you been finding the incorrect links?

For instance, a link to http://www.birthright.net/brwiki/index.php/Main_Page should actually be a link to http://www.birthright.net/forums/showwiki.php?title=Main%20page or http://www.birthright.net/forums/showwiki.php

I'm not sure about other errors, but the main page of the wiki is here: http://www.birthright.net/forums/showwiki.php

This was probably part of moving the site to a different forum/wiki software.

Hi, the link to http://www.birthright.net/brwiki/ used to be the first install of a wiki (mediawiki) on this site. later we moved ALL the content to be part of the forum software.
So the brwiki(mediawiki) install became obsolete but i left it there, just in case.
Recently i got about a 1000 false registrations per day! on the mediawiki software that was still there even though registration was disabled. so to prevent further damage i deleted that install that was just sitting there doing nothing for almost 10 years.

like sorontar mentions, the correct url to the wiki is: http://www.birthright.net/forums/showwiki.php

cheers
Arjan

basically the last 7-8 years nothing has been really done to the website. so software is running on old PHP version. Arius tried to migrate the forum and wiki to a new platform but ran into some issues and then life caught up.
So if you want, a position for webmaster is open.

yes,
the website need to be refresh and upgrade. That needs a huge work because it's too old and the the target software it's very different (the old software vbulletin is nearly died and bad).

i already did the migration but there are some inconsistence in data to check. Need a huge work too and any people want help are welcome ;)

infortunely, with the covid-19 i meet some difficulty with my private life (beginning in december when i'm in china..and need to stay there...) so i'm little away of birthright.net.

i will come back soon but i don't know when.

Not good to hear about the effect of COVID-19 on your life Arius. Hope it becomes a lot easier for you soon. Your personal wellbeing - mental, physical and financial - should always take priority.

I am limited by what I can offer behind the scenes. IT is my field but these days I am more a data scientist and educator than a systems engineer. If you think there is anything I could do, ask.

Indeed. I too have been hammered by the outbreak but in the other direction. My work has me pulling 60+ hour work weeks, but I'll do what I can when I can. Just drop me a note. I know the wiki template and forum template are both horribly out of date but don't have a clue in the world how to help migrate it to another system. Still, if you just need brute force data entry, I can handle that.

I too have RL issues distracting me so don't have much time, but I am happy to chip in for new software if that's part of what we need. Thanks to all the IT-literate people for doing the hard work.
