Arguably the most significant name in Cerilia's history... Roele. But how do you pronounce it?

I've always gone with "role", as in "to role play" or "roll a die".

But as i recall, the rules for Anuirean say to pronounce ever syllable. So perhaps it is "ro-ell". Or "ro-ell-ay". Or "role-ay".

What do you think? How do you pronounce it? Is there anything official on this?

Pronounced with an Anuirean accent, if going by the rules in the wiki:

r: r, as in rat
oe: oh, as in ogre
l: short l, as in lap
with a silent final e

Of course, the wiki doesn't really describe the phonology of Anuirean. It doesn't describe whether there are any changes to the rules if a phoneme is used in a word-final or word-initial position (like the lengthening of consonants). However, I suspect the above is correct.

Ah, yes those links look familiar to me now. Been a long time since i looked those up. So i've been pronouncing it properly all these years, probably because i read the same thing so many years ago. Heh.

The wiki rules look to be a copy of the 'cerilian languages' card from the BR boxset.

I would however note that local dialects would be strong so that set of rules is probably only for the nobility or some other 'proper' group (perhaps Avan / the City of Anuire).

If you google 'English accent map' you will see how England has differing regional dialects, I would expect anuire to be slightly less diverse given its short history and the blending effect of the migration from Aduria, but the lack of national communications and difficulty of travel for most would encourage local dialects to form.

Using the "ro ell" pronunciation with a particular dialect accenting the "ell" making it sound very close to the word "royal" may perhaps give us a hidden insight into the name.

Since dutch is a germanic language i always pronounces it like "Roe le" (oe is like the ou in the english ´you´ sound) in that case it is similar as Ru-le (to rule)
