It isn't difficult, you go to User CP (above left). Choose Edit Avatar, and then choose either upload avatar image from your computer, or link to an avatar image stored on a server somewhere.

You will need to edit your avatar image with some form of image editing software so that it is no more than 64x64 pixels (same size as my image) or you will not be able to upload it.

As you can probably see, my existing Avatar is too large for this forum software. But I can't work out how to swap it for a smaller version. When I go to [Edit Avatar] I get:

[gif:Custom Avatar] Your Current Avatar
Avatars are small graphics that are displayed under your username whenever you post.
[ ] Do not use an avatar
Note: if you have a custom avatar selecting this option will delete it.

[Save Changes] [Reset Fields]

Will I have to delete my current avatar first? Will that give me the full upload capability? I don't want to do anything until I know.

I don't have the option to upload/choose an avatar either. I kind of figured it had to do with user groups (like you have to progress to a certain group before you have permission to upload an avatar, though that doesn't really seem to be it now that I'm looking at it) or that they'd been turned off (the effect being that only people who had avatars on the old forum software would have them now)

This is what you need to select to delete your current Avatar and then you upload a new one to replace it. At least that is how it should work. You may just be able to upload a new Avatar.

You are a member of the resgistered users group, so you should be able to upload an Avatar, and as Sorontar has one, you should also be able to upload one...

I'd've thought so too but this is the entirety of my "Edit Avatar" screen (and I'm guessing of marcum's as well, from the sound of it):

(a box)Your current avatar
(left aligned box w/no graphic that says "No Avatar Specified")
Avatars are small graphics that are displayed under your username whenever you post.
()Do not use an avatar (selected, not unselectable)
Note: if you have a custom avatar selecting this option will delete it.
(end box)
Save Changes (button) Reset Fields (button)

My Avatar has now gone. I presume Raesene or Someone With Power who was playing around has removed it. Unfortunately, the [Edit Avatar] screen still does not give me any options beyond the [Save Changes] [Reset Fields]. I can't even unselect the [X] Do not use an avatar.

You should now be able to upload a custom avatar again.
I have gone over the usergroup rights and it was indeed disabled

Sorry, yes that was me. I've replaced it with a copy that has been resized to the correct size for the forum (which is 64x64 pixels).

Thanks mate. It looks much better than any of the resized ones I had got ready.
