The Beholder
Power. That is as close as I can get to describing myself to you. Your
simple mind would be lost in the vastness that is my being. At one time I
was much as you are now, but with the fall Azrai, and the other false gods,
I have finally reached my true place in the universe. My children carry my
will out to my subjects, who in turn move about your world unseen, and
undetected. Soon all the lower forms of life on this world will be cattle
for my people, and I shall drain the mystic forces of the land, and rise as
a goddess myself.
Few races, aside from a slave Doppleganger tribe, even know of the existance
of the Beholder. Besides a few tales no one believes. In truth she was once
a beautiful Elven Mage, who worshipped a long forgotten Elven demi-god named
Lolth(sp?, loosely based on the Drow Elven diety of the same name), and
loved things of beauty, particularly herself. Although she payed homage to
Lolth she still had the "modern" Elves bias against gods. She saw them
mearly as greater powers that coexisted in the universe. But in her greed
she hoped that Lolth, and/or Azrai could grant her some of thier "godly"
power. In fact she served Azrai right up till the final confrontation, even
after her other Elven brothers had switched sides. As the gods died she
attempted to Teleport away, and was caught in the blast. The blast disrupted
her spell, and she appeared in a series of caverns deep below the earth. She
was badly hurt, and could feel herself slipping away, her body badly broken,
and burnt. She cursed Lolth, and Azrai as she closed her eyes, and accepted
death. But she did not die, within hours she awoke, to discover she was
fully healed, and completely changed.
The Beholder has the same appearance, stats, and ablities, of a Hive
Mother(MM Beholder pg.25, or better yet see I Tyrant). With several key
changes in her powers, and ablities. The first is the addition of a BL.
Blood: Minor(Azrai)30
Blood Abilities: Major Regeneration(Great), Bloodform(Major)
also note these stats,
Hit Points: 100
Saves As: W20
Next is the her ablity to control other Beholder/Beholder-kin, that she
gives birth to. The Beholder can control 6d6+4 Beholders, and/or 5d8
Beholder-kin/Beholder-abominations. She can control up to 40 various
Beholder type creatures at once. The Beholder also has 8 tentacles growing
about her body. Each of these is 10 feet long, and she can use them to
manipulate tools. She has retained her ablity to cast spells, and has the
spells of a 16th level Mage(these should be assigned by the DM as to what
ever is most fitting to thier game).
Shortly after the first of her children found thier way to the surface they
discovered a wild band of humanoid creatures, who survived by
shape-changing. The Beholder enslaved this tribe of Dopplegangers, and
slowly trained them to use thier talents on intelligent creatures. They have
now reached a point where they cam mimic people well enough to blend in with
them, and no one will notice. Over the years the Dopplegangers have helped
the Beholder to establish Ley lines that draw the power of Sources to the
Beholder's lair. There she absorbes the energy. Storing it for the next
phase in her crazed rise to godhood.
