According to me (but IDHTRbIFOM) this is wrong: in order to set up a
trade rout, you need to have at least a (o?) holding level guild. Am I
right?

There is a world just around the corner of your mind
where reality is an intruder and dreams come true.
You may escape into it at will, you need no secret password,
magic wand or Alladins Lamp, all you need is your own imagination...

Ok, this might seem like a silly question, but bear with me. All regents
can make trade routes right? You dont need to control the guilds in the
domain/province to open a route. you just have to have a road to/and from the
2 provinces, right? It just seemed silly, that possibly 2 regents (fighters)
set up a trade route, and neither controls a "trade" guild.
I know the number of trade routes are limited to the size of the province,
but it seemed funny that the regents wouldn't deal with the "thief/rogue"
regent if there was one.
Did i miss something there?

Hello Eric,

The rulebook (p. 59-60) specifies that 'A regent who controls a guild
holding can attempt to open a trade route' and that 'trade routes are
neutralized if the regent's guild holding in either province is contested
(...)'. I figure it implies that the regent must have guild holdings on
both provinces in order to create and maintain a trade route.

So fighters, or mages or priests can still have trade routes, but they must
first have guild holdings, a costly endeavor since they don't award him or
her any RP (the trade route won't either, see p. 41). Still, he can do it
for the money, but then I suppose merchant rogues in the area will want to
contest him, and we know how trade routes are vulnerable to contestation...

This brings up an interesting situation that happened in our campaign.
Early on, both I (regent of Roesone) and the regent of Medeore
simultaniously contested Orthien Tane (a leech of a guilder) out of our
countries. Unfortunately, Orthien Tane escaped our clutches at the time,
but later on, on a solo adventure, I did a little Roesonian extradition and
brought him back (My character was rather upset at him by this point, seeing
as how he had paid assassins to come after me, and nearly killed my sister
Marlae in the process)

Upon his return, both Orthien's blood line and remaining guilds were
divested away from him, the blood line going to one loyal follower of mine
and the guilds to my 'pet guilder' lieutenant, who is now my vassal. So, in
truth, Roesone now owns 6 levels of guilds in Diemed, ain't life grand? :)

Sorry for rambling about this, but I had to gloat somewhere :)
