This recently came up in a PBeM I'm playing in, and I'm curious to know
the general consensus on this rule:

on page 42 of the rule book, under Taxation, Collection, and Trade it
states in the second full paragraph:

" To calculate income from a seaport, divide the province rating by 2,
round up, and add 1"

I'm wondering if this refers SPECIFICALLY to trade routes only out of
seaports (before the seafaring rules came along), or does this mean that
ALL seaports generate income every turn in this fashion with or without a
trade route?

Note: For all those in this PBem, I am NOT trying to prove or disprove the
DMs ruling..I am mearly looking for a consensus answer for my own
campaign...I like to keep things as close to the actual "meaning" of the
rules as possible, as my resident rules lawyer likes to jump all over
these things :)

The income is only for a trade route, not the seaport itself.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the method to determine the income of a
"far-shores" trade-route, where the province on the other side of the route
is unknown, it saves the DM the headache of having to construct an entire
province that will never come into play, simply for the purpose of knowing
its rating so the income of the route can be determined. Also, I think
overseas trade would be more profitable, because of the premium that can be
demanded for truly foreign goods that would otherwise be unavailable.

But nevertheless, a trade-route does have to exist to a "far-shore", if it's
just a sea-based trade route to a known province in Cerilia (say from Anuire
to Seaharrow), the normal rules apply.

At least this was my understanding.
