I'm a fairly new BR player, and I'd like to find a FAQ on the gameworld that
answers questions on what information I can find in which supplement. Also,
I'd like to know which back-issues of Dragon have juicy BR specific articles
(I read a reference to BR Skills and Powers chargen rules, and I'd like to
see that).

I checked the Birthright Netbook, and several other sites, which it linked
to, but to no avail...

Anyone care to hand me a pointer?

The BR skills and powers rules are in Dragon #247. Sorry, but I'm not
aware of any web based FAQ.

Well if this would be like 2 months in the future I would say take a look
at www.birthright.net for a FAQ for a general introduction... The only
problem is this is not two months in the future and noone has yet written
that section...
So what am I trying to say here... :) Actually that www.birthright.net has
already planned to include some sort of FAQ for new players, but yet it is
only an empty link. I need someone to write the faq for us.
The questions I intended to get answered are similar to: Do you have to
play a king in Birthright ? Becuase it is a newbie question and also one
that has one answer.
Not in the lines of: What really is RP ? because this is question open to
wide interpretation and has been discussed long and hard on the list...
This not to insult someone and also that this webpage will probably be more
"cannon" than other online stuff and then it is not appropriate to use one
person's views ...

Hopes this makes some sense...
Could people that could be interested in writing this contact me, while the
other list members can please answer this thread with ideas for questions...

Well, wouldn't it be correct to first ask what the queastions are
exactly? So, if there are any newbie's out there, ask on the list, this
will give the writer of the FAQ an idea.

Well, as the newbie who was looking for such a thing, here are some of my
initial questions that had me scrambling around the web for hours trying to
answer:

1: I just got this Birthright set. Is it compatible with the player's option
rules? Is there a list of Skills & Powers options I can use for creating BR
characters?

a: Apparently Dragon magazine published such a list in issue 247. This issue
is not yet available in the back-issues section of Wizards' web site, nor is
said list of powers available for download anywhere on the web (that I could
find...I was actually rather amazed that everyone with a BR site was that
respectful of TSR/Wizards' copyright, even though the product line had been
discontinued...a pretty encouraging detail)

2: Where can I find some good online resources for Birthright?

a: I did manage to find the netbook and several other good sites.

3: I'm just starting a BR campaign, and I want to know which BR
books/supplements I should buy. Could you give me any recommendations?

a: This is a biggie. This question is a burning one for someone new to any
game/campaign setting, because DMs often don't have the money/time to go
buy/read EVERYTHING there is on a game world. This question is also the one
that is NOT addressed ANYWHERE in the netbook, or any other sites (that I
could find...and I looked pretty hard). Hell, TSR/Wizards don't even have a
complete list of the product line on their site, much less a quick synopsis
of the contents of each product so I could at least see what's what. Could
those of you who have been with the setting a while and own most of the
supplements please compile a list of what a newbie can expect to find in
each sourcebook/boxed set, which things (in the general consensus of the
list) are really good, and which are really lame, and also recommend one or
two of the novels (if they are really good) to DMs who want to get a BR
campaign started, but might need a few ideas. I'm still lost on this
one...and going and spending $300 isn't the answer, because I still won't
have time to read it all...

I'm sure I'll have more as I finish reading the original boxed set and
actually get my game started. Topics on the list will probably spark off a
few more. I'll post occasionally. Also, I'd love to help actually write the
FAQ. I've found that it's good to have a newbie on the 'commitee" for such a
thing, since its supposed to be written for newbies. As a newbie to the
list, I'm not sure if FAQ-writing discussion would be appropo here, or if it
should be taken off-list. Therefore, I'll leave that decision to you
veterans.

Book of Magecraft and Book of Priestcraft are musts. If you want a
campaign in an other area then Anuire, you should try to get your hands
on the descriptions of those area's. Don't buy the sea-battle stuff. All
of that is in the Cities of Sun boxed set, which also has a Khinasi area
described. Player Secrets can be handy, but is not really needed.
Adventures tend to be bad (as far as I understood), but I don't buy
them, since I prefer to make my own anyway.

I would say, that it is good subject as any. It will most certainly help
whoever is going to write the FAQ for www.birthright.net

Oh yah, one more:

Are there any Birthright xpt's/xpx's that I can download for the Core Rules
CD-Roms?

a: I did find a few...would be nice if they were all in the same place, or
at least there was an index somewhere.

Try my site at http://www.pubilc.asu.edu/~ashton2/birth.html I have a yet
almost complete list of the birthright products and I have begun reviewing
them. I stopped because I am in the midst of the Rohrmarch Domain Sourcebook
http://www.public.asu.edu/~ashton2/rohr.htm. Stop by and give me some
feedback on either one.

Uhh...you might consider changing that "html" to "htm" or make two versions
of the page available on your site...some less tenacious individuals than I
might give up after not finding your page the first try.. ;-)

The www.birthright.net will eventually include "all" infor about and
written for BR, also the largest BR related link list on the net..... So it
should answer itself...

The review section will when it is finished include several reviews of all
the supplements and everything else written for BR by TSR. In this review
section there will also be a descripteion and a complete products list...
The simple product list has been made and checked against Tommy's site and
is finished :) just not available yet...

We don't need a large comitee to write this..I'd actually say you've
written the first 2-3 questions (and answers) that's good we are coming
along then.... :)

One of my players wrote that Skills & Powers article you're talking about.
There's probably not a problem e-mailing you a Word version of the article
if you want--e-mail me at DLT718@aol.com if you're interested and I'll ask
Ed about it.

I really like the rules--I adopted them for my own campaign. We're playing
a kind of strange game right now...all the PCs have been exiled to a tiny
volcanic island with a village of about 500 polynesian-type people, and
they have to find their way back to reclaim their domains and figure out
what force is behind the whole thing.

These PCs are second-generation--the children of the original campaign's
PCs (regents of Khourane, Talinie, Halskapa, Baruk-Azhik, and Medoere).
That's been a lot of fun.
