I have opened the new site engine for public.

the reason i opened it before finishing is that it does work, even if i have not finished creating the look and feel for it.

its been too long since people could add their own written stuff to this site...

hope it will fullfil our needs to keep this community up and running!

I like it Arjan.

The articles are all very easy to see and to access. Haven't tried uploading yet, but that functionality should be a big boon.

Now, if you just get that nice BR feel to the layout ;)

Your effort IS appreciated!

The Green Knight is also very pleased that BR.net is looking alive and well.

Keep posting people!

Is there a limit to how large the articles can be? I have been reading some and I was getting the impression that I am not seeing the entire thing.

I have now found an example: "Players Secrets of Suiriene" . For me, the last lines I see are:
" Green Mountains: This province is named for the mosses
& ferns which grow in it’s valleys. The heavy rains it recieves "

Rather sudden and incomplete I feel.

I have the original copy of that document and that is how it ends. I don't think it was ever completed in the original version.

Arjan,

I just tried to upload a map to the World Maps section. It appears not to work porpperly - while I could select World Maps from the menu and got a message saying the upload was OK, the map didn't appear in the dowload section when I checked.

Well it DID work :-)

Only there is a little security build in, so that I have to approve all uploads before they will appear to the public.

Its approved now...

Hi,

The site still loads INCREDIBLY slowly - 15-20 seconds with broadband. Don E has the same problem. I can't use the site unless I can get it to speed up - the boards are ultrafast in comparison.

I am fully aware of it, when i just installed e107 it was very fast, but after inserting the 500 articles it became very slow.

I have looked into it, and probably there isnt anything i can do about it, therefor i am looking for an other CMS system, which hopefully can handle large amounts of articles.

Its probably going to be XOOPS. I have played with it yesterday, but want to test it much more before i will make ANOTHER conversion.

Unfortunately my spare time is limited at the moment, so please bare with it for a while.

BUT if you really need info from the "archive" . the old one is still online. you can access 95% of the articles through that.

Arjan,

Did something just happen to the site engine (or server, again)?

starting this AM the forums are different (at least to me). Instead of the white on black they are black on white with no choices on the top, instead the following is shown:

well to be short: BRnet was hacked this morning. someone got remote access by uploading a phpremoteview

by changing my password, creating a new admin, and thus deleting the wrapper.

I really have no clue how he did it.. i was triggered by an email that i got from BRnet for resetting my password... then i noticed the whole wrapper was gone.
AND i couldnt loging with my password anymore.

then noticed that "arjan" had created a user called "cccc" with admin rights.

all using the above IP address.

the mail is on its way:

Dear mr. Cuong

A person has hacked our online community forums using an IP addres owned by your company.

This person was using the following IP address and email addresses:

Arjan,

Something that just occurred to me - you might want to check your paypal account status.

just checked out my paypal, and it's OK. No activity, but I will have to go back in and change all of my passwords.

Dont worry about the passwords, the databas encrypts them, he got access somehow by changing my password, not using my passwords.
my passwords arent guessable at all

Thanks, Arjan!

BOO HISS ON HACKERS! Go do something useful I say! Invent a car that runs on water or something...

So if you don't have admin rights any more RJ, then how are you gonna fix/add/change stuff if Mr. Nutty MAgoo still wants to cause us headaches?

Arjan
03-05-2005, 10:00 PM
well i have my ways to do so (back to the good old command shell!), but hacking my username isnt the way to gain access anymore.

Glad to hear that they lose an entryway!

I wonder how many people are dedicated enough to actually downgrade their account...
