The book you are referring to is called _The Iron Throne_. It is
written by Simon Hawke and chronicles the rise and fall of Michael
Roele. At the end of the book, Michael Roele is defeated in a
one-on-one battle at the hands of the Gorgon. Instead of the Gorgon
stealing Michael Roele's bloodline, Michael grounded all of his power
into the ground and, therefore, denying the Gorgon the final victory.
After the death of Roele by the Gorgon it is not clear what happens to
Michael's army. During the battle neither side was gaining or losing
ground. I assume that, after Michael Roele was killed, his army was
defeated. I wish I knew what it was that kept the Gorgon from waltzing
across Anuire afterwards. I guess that when I get my hands on _War_,
also by Simon Hawke, will I find out my answer. I highly recommend
reading this novel.
