Battlespells

Since the subject came up I want to ask a question.

Does it bother any of you that battle spells can be
cast by mages and not just wizards and elves ? Imo
that makes battle spells too damn easy since some
very powerful ones are 1st level spells. What do
you all think ?

That's why I don't use 'em in my campaign. Too powerful at low levels.

Who says those who know them teach them to everyone? I don't see why wizard
regents would teach them, and those that do would endanger their power. IMC
they are hard to come by. No one teaches them, and a player or npc wanting to
know one must research them at a substantial minus to the roll and cost (after
all the amount of spell components is rather large). And besides even if the
magicians can, most NPCs should range from 1st to 3rd level, as most of the
higher levels are represendted in the books. This means they have only 3
times available to cast some of these, plus they have to make it on to the
battlefeild, have all of the components with them, and not get killed by
charging units. I tend to find that battle spells make large armies
vulnerable, and offer up the respect a battle wizard/magician deserves.
