If you look at the Complete Book of Elves it explains a thing called
"reverie"? that they do in order to maintain thier memories, despite
liveing for centuries. They enter a state much akin to human sleep and
will "dream" about what they have done over the past while. They will
call back images and ponder them. In this state they can call back
melinenia-old memories and re-live them. Such a prosess can be hard on
an elf, especially when reliving painful (emotionally or phisically)
events.
Elves do not have to sleep but some species must do the revie (the elven
resistance to sleep is explained throuhg this, sleep is alien to them).
BTW-How long do Cerillian 1/2 Elves live? I'd guess that it is longer
than in the PHB since they are 1/2+ IMMORTAL. I also say this because
High Mage Aelies is said to be hudreds of years old and, without long
life, would be dead, or nearly dead, useing the 130 year base max in the
PHB.
