The group I currently run has a mage regent, a would-be thief regent =
(he is yet to depose anyone) and the rest are lieutenants. The mage was =
allocated the regency because being a night shift worker, he usually =
gets to the game 2-3 hours late.
Domain stuff is usually done out of session time, so that the others =
are not just there for decorative value. If the regent does an (domain) =
action that does not involve the others, I start the others early, and =
when the mage turns up, I just run him in between slower patches with =
the others until I can get them back on the same time scale.
However, where possible, I turn what actions I can into mini =
adventures, allowing the turn to happen, but otherwise treating it as =
the background to an adventure. Additional adventuring can be done at =
the end of the turn month if I consider that the adventure will only =
take a couple of game days.
Any inconvenient overlap of time is explained away with "...well most =
of the party was two days in the elf controlled forest, while the mage =
spent a month moving troops through the shadow world.... so the mage =
gets back to the castle a week before you guys do...." :-) .... not that =
I can get away with that one too often.
This seems to work so far with my mob, HTH.

Subject: [BIRTHRIGHT] - Domain Turns

Hola!

Okay, I recently started a Birthright campaign and we've only had three
sessions. Each session I've tried running the Domain Turn sequence as =
smoothly
as possible, but still involve role-playing. At first I tried =
straight-up
Domain Turns, going through the motions and getting things done. That =
didn't
work.=20

The second session I emphasized roleplaying more, but it ended up =
turning into
the stereotypical AD&D adventure, 'cept the characters had armies to =
back up
their threats.

The third I tried a combination, but I wasn't able to handle all the =
incoming
information. I couldn't manage one character adventuring and roleplaying =
a
scene out with a bartender and control the other player's domain turns. =
And I
didn't want to focus on just the roleplaying scene 'cause I didn't want =
to
exclude the other players..but there was no obvious way to involve them. =

So, I ask you all..how do *YOU* run your Domain Turns? Examples are MOST
welcome! I would like to know what you do that makes your campaigns
successful, while not turning Birthright into "Axis & Allies" or "Risk", =
but
not slidding into the stereotypical "You walk into a ten foot by ten =
foot
corridor made of stone...".
