Do priests have to reasearch realm spells or do they get them from thier
diety like regular spells?

Also, since priest spells are granted by the diety, what does a priest
DO to "create" a new spell?
Wizards have to learn how to harness and shape the magical energy (and
something similar for Psionisists).

The "generic" spells granted by a diety are learned by the cleric during his
years as an acolate. Spells unique to the clergy (rare) are learned usually
at higher levels (such as quest spells) and realm spells can be taught to
the cleric by elders and superiors of the faith. However, truely original
(or lost spells) must be either researched (or found adventuring) just like
a wizard might for his spellbook. The primary difference being, the cleric
uses an alter instead of a spell library.

Full details can be found in the Players Options: Spells & Magic sourcebook.

I would say they get all the normal ones from the book of priestcraft,
but would have to research any unique ones created by players or the DM.

For the sake of game balance, I recommend having each priest research their
realm spells. I started out letting them be "given" realm spells, as I had
with their normal ones, and things quickly got out of hand, with the poor
wizards who had to research everything, quickly out-classed and out-powered.

I rule that and integral part of priestly realm spells is an involved and
intricate Ceremony that must be done correctly to correctly gather the
necessary faith energy and channel it correctly into the desired effect.
Research must still be done to determine what the correct ceremony is.
