The reason I wanted the calendar info (Thanks everybody, BTW), is that I'm
working on a special realm spell for a campaign I'm running. Basically,
IMC, Azrai isn't dead, just stuck in the Shadow World. This is pretty
heavily influenced by Lovecraft, so I wanted there to be petty cultists
meddling with forces they don't understand and all that rot. Here's the
spell, anyway.

Dark Summons Sphere:Necromancy(?)
Regency: 0 Req'd Holding: 1
Gold: 1 GB Character Level: 3
Duration: 5 min/ 1 year.

This spell creates a short lived portal to the Shadow world, through which
comes a dark being to do the priest's bidding. It will remain on the earth
for 1 year, during which it makes every attempt to carry out his command,
and then it fades away.
The spell can only be cast during Emmanier, the month leading up to the Eve
of the Dead. It culminates on the Eve, with the opening of the portal for a
period of about 5 minutes. During this time, the priest must offer a
blooded victim, preferably a regent, to seal the bargain. If he has no
suitable person, the creature takes him instead.
Additionally, this spell can only be performed in one of a few locations
around Cerilia, where ancient stone circles stand. These are found in the
Erebannien, the Giantdowns, Drachenward, and of course, your player's
holdings :)

Boah, this is a very mighty spell when you owe a piece of land containing
one of these ancient stone circles... I think, that this would be a rather
powerful thing to spray terror accross the land.
Do you have any suggestions of the power of this being, what tasks it may
perform, or what side effects appear.
Assuming it the powers are much the same as the victims, is there a
chance for the creature to break free and cancel the task? Is there a
possibility for the victim to free himself?

But I think this spell offers a great deal of adventure...

I don't know what all tasks you could set the creature to. I'm planning
on having the cultist give it an order to capture the regent of the land he
is in, then return to the stone circle on the next eve of the dead, so the
regent can be the cultist's next victim.
I also don't know what manner of creatures live in the shadow world,
besides the obvious undead. The one that will come through is going to look
like a dark, grey version of his target. He will have the same hit dice as
the regent has levels. He is even equipped the same, but his armor class is
the same as a Shadow from the MM, and he attacks for d8 damage, except
against his target. To the regent, he does d4, and paralyzation. Each
point of damage (cumulative) gives a -1 to his saving throw v. paralyzation,
which he has to make every time he is struck.
Side effects: well, it's going to be here for a year... what does it
eat, what happens if someone spots it? What if the priest dies in the
intervening year, and it is stuck here?
You could also use some of the Yugoloths or Tanarri from the Planescape
set, if you have them. I love those guys, they just reek of evil. :)

I think the creature should be a lich (lich king). Thus the Realm Spell (liches
are VERY hard to control). There should be a will power contest every day that
the lich pits against the summoner, allowing him to break free (or not.) How
about a skeleton warrior or a Death Knight?
