ok given that you had the funds which resources would you want to buy before
starting the campaign? ( and don't say them all)

The main boxed set is enough to get you started. Everything else is
additions to the boxed set itself. After looking through it you will
know whether you want to get one of the expansions or not. The domain
sourcebooks merely add more details to places already covered in the
boxed set.

All you really need in order to start a game is the boxed set. This is
enough to set you up quite nicely in the Anuirean Empire area of Cerilia.
As far as being the DM of the group, my only suggestions for additional
materials would be to purchase the Blood Enemies book, which provides
additional information on the awnshelein, the big bad guys of Cerilia.
Once you have a book, and you select a starting point for your characters,
you might see if you can get a hold of one of the Player's Secrets Books
for that area. It seems to me that most groups start in the South coast
region: the duchy of Roesone is set up as sort of the default starting
country. The Players secrets books, esp. those for Roesone, Medoere, and
Ilien, are useful for getting started in these areas, whether or not you
are starting your players off as regents or not. There are also sections
at the back of those books that are useful for DM's in inventing new
adventures appropriate for that area.
I hope this helps. You really don't need anything other than the boxed set
to get started.

Honestly, "all" would be my real suggestion, but to narrow it down to musts
I would say: The boxed set, Blood Enemies, Navel Battle Rules(or Cities of
the Sun), Legends of the Hero-Kings, 1 or 2 Player's Secrets(which ones
would be determined by where your placing the campaign), and at least 1 of
the campaign expansions(again which ones depend on the location of the
campaign). That would make for a nice "starter set", IMO.

Then the Trade Routes introduced on pp. 15-16 of the Naval Battle Rules,
and every other official source that describes them, are wrong, because
they only have a guild in the originating province.

The BR boxed set is of course the best place to start out. You don't really
*need* anything else to begin with.
Someone else asked if the Rjurik Highlands was out; yes, I think it was the
2nd set released (after Cities of the Sun); could it be out of print
already? That might be why you can't find it. If for some reason it is out
of print, you shouldn't have too hard a time tracking down a copy.

I forgot one more absolute must, King of the Giantdowns. This product is so
well written you will want to work it into your game, no matter where on
Cerilia it takes place. It is also perfect if you decide to run a game
without PC Regents, KotG was written with this in mind. Don't pass it up.
BTW, I want to thank Ed Stark again for giving us that particular
work(among your many others). Keep it up, please.

The Boxed set definitely(that's the one we all agreed you need, it's got
the rules).
Now, depending on where you want to play it. I'm a fan of the Great Bay
myself, so I'd say get that Supplement. Then for a domain sourcebook,
use the free Muden one. It's got great info, and it's free.
Then I'd suggest the Magecraft, Priestcraft, and Abominations books.
Then of course, for just basic D&D stuff, I'd suggest several of the
Class Handbooks. I'm a big fan of the Fighter's, Thieves, and BArd's
books.

I'd suggest:
- - any one of the human realm Player's Secrets books set in Anuire (to serve as
home for your human PCs and to get adventure ideas - my favorite's are Roesone
and Tuornen, but any realm that sounds interesting to you will do nicely)
- - Blood Enemies (lots of great villains)
- - Book of Magecraft (my favorite of all BR products with the exception of the
original boxed set - it tells you how Cerilian wizards differ from other
campaigns)
- - Book of Priestcraft (supposed to ship any day, will do for Priests what the
BoM did for wizards)
- - if your PCs like dwarves and/or elves you might want to get Player's Secrets
of Baruk-Azhik (a dwarven kingdom) and/or Player's Secrets of Tuarhievel (an
elven kingdom)
- - and the King of the Giantdowns accessory (this gives info. on an area the PCs
can adventure in and possibly forge into their own domain at a later date)
I'll officially stop my list there. Sorry if that's too many products.
However, after you've got this core, you might want to add the 3 boxed sets
(Cities of the Sun, The Rjurik Highlands, and Havens of the Great Bay) and the
Tribes of the Heartless Wastes expansion coming out in December. These will
flesh out the entire continent of Cerilia. The adventures are all pretty good
as well. Others might disagree, but I don't think you can go wrong with any BR
product.
Hope that helped a little

I know we're not supposed to send in "me too" posts, but in this instance I
can't resist. I got KotGd a week ago, and it is as good as S. says it is.
It will make a great adventure campaign, even if your dudes don't want to
end up ruling the Giantdowns; but it actually made ME want to rule the Gds,
and I hate foul and barbarous wildernesses.
