IMCerilia post-mortem survival has a lot to do with the gods; primarily
Ruornil and Neserie.
I see Ruornil as being the psychopoump of the Cerilian pantheon - He
escorts the souls of the departed to their resting place, protecting them
from the sticky perils of the Shadow World and the fate of becoming one of
the unfortunates who become lost there after death.
Ruornil shepherds these souls to Neserie who, in Her mercy, created the
afterworld as an alternative to torment in the now malign Shadow World.
Not everyone goes to Neserie`s afterworld though, some are taken to be
with other gods after their deaths.
