Experience for Domain Actions.

Here is some information that I drew up allow NPC rulers to increase in
level without going on adventures. This can also be used in pbem games
to
give experience to players without bothering with adventures.

For each action that a NPC ruler makes during a domain turn there is a
chance of gaining experience points. This is only possible for actual
Domain Turn, and not for Free Actions. I have listed below the action
that
it is possible to gain experience for and the values involved.

Agitate:
- - 250 / province agitated successfully.

Contest:
- - 500 / province contested successfully.

Create Holding:
- - 1000

Declare War:
- - 2000 / successful battle if regent is leading army.
- - 500 / successful battle is regent is not leading army.

Diplomacy:
- - 100 - 3000 depending on success of diplomacy.

Espionage:
- - 2000 if successful.

Forge Ley Line:
- - 1000 if successful.

Fortify:
- - 100 / castle or holding level.

Investiture:
- - 10,000 / province invested from unwilling regent
- - 5,000 / holding invested from unwilling regent
- - 2000 / province invested from willing regent
- - 1000 / holding invested from willing regent

Lieutenant:
- - 50 / level of lieutenant

Realm Spell:
- - 1000 + 100 / level of spell

Research:
- - 50 / level for standard spell research
- - 500 / battle spell researched
- - 5000 / realm spell researched

Rule:
- - 100 / level for holdings
- - 500 / level for province

Trade Route:
- - 500

Once the NPC has reached the required experience for the next level then
he/she must use a training action to advance. A NPC can only advance one
level at a time.

These rules should lead to a quick increase for low level NPC's but once
a
few level have been gained the advancement will slow down greatly. This
should work out similar to PC's who have adventures to gain experience
from.

Good Idea! I've been doing the same thing for a long time now and had
recieved the impression from other players that I was the only person who did
things like that. In mine, I insist that no level can be gained unless
training is undergone.(most of my players just hire a middle-aged 10th level
fighter who is looking for a cushy retirement
and undergo training every other day as part of their character's lifestyle.)
Mages are just required to either train or spend some days studying.

I already give experience to my PCs for successful realm actions,
however I think that most of your numbers are a little high for that
purpose. As a tool for NPCs, sure, but my rule has always been
that rules apply eqully to PCs and NPCs. The problem with those
numbers above is that they eliminate the need to adventure for PCs.
More on this later, I gotta get ready for work.
