True, but if you plase your mous over the download button you get a dragdown menu thet states

"Nothing Yet"

and it is wery confusing.
It has taken my days to find this section of the page, and only by following a ling in the forums. :)

Ahh the download section finally shows up once you click it. For quite a while it wasn't even doing that.

You do have to be registered in order to get there though, so visitors won't get it.

Hi Arjan,

The link to the download section appears to still be broken, at least from most pages on this website. From the frontpage and most others the download link goes to http://www.birthright.net/downloads.php

The only place I found the link to work from was the forum pages, which correctly takes you to the http://www.birthright.net/download/ page. While it's not a major issue, I don't think it should take much work to change the problem.

There are also some other weird links in the menu from some of the pages. E.g. go to the My Account page, and all of a sudden the Links button takes ou to the Forum page

Cheers,
Don E

Hiya all. Please don't take this post as whining - it's intended as honest constructive criticism - but I think that the "Nothing Yet" download thingy is actually hurting your effort quite a bit.

I honestly believe that there is significant interest for a campaign setting and rules set like Birthright. The problem is that people who might be interested in such a thing probably won't come to this site. This isn't because you don't have good material (quite on the contrary; I personally think that what you have so far is amazing), but because you simply don't have your name out there.

There are thousands of enthusiastic players who visit ENWorld daily, who have never even heard of Birthright, but who do hear of Dark Sun, Ravenloft, Planescape and the myriad of post-AD&D campaign settings. This is not because these settings produce better material than you do, but simply because every time some new document - even it's a preliminary unofficial pre-playtest release candidate 0.05 character sheet - for these settings is released they are mentioned on the big gaming sites.

This is important, because as more people read the material, more people will want to contribute to developing the setting, which is to everyones benefit. Heck, even a few active fansites or online campaign journals would be nice. As it is, Birthright is pretty much out of the public's eye, which is a shame.

Anyways, do with this as you like. Just my 2 (euro)cents.

I fully agree with the last poster. On the main page to say that there are no links anywhere and no downloads whatsoever certainly would not make me search for the BRCS playtest document somewhere in the threads of the forum...

Perhaps at least the link to Wizards site with the free Birthright downloads (Book of Regency etc.) should be in the link section.

And the playtest document, although no final version should be in the download section
bye

He does bring up a valid issue and one that has, frankly, always been a

problem for BR. The setting is kind of hard to market in that the concepts

are a bit broader than is typical for most campaign settings--the domain

level seems to translate into a strategy game for most people, ignoring

that it really is just another level of role-playing not a different game

entirely--and the setting itself doesn`t have quite the focus on a

particular character type. There`s no character that quite equates to

Darksun`s big, bald gladiator figure that one can just put on the cover of

the BR materials that screams the theme of the setting. The Gorgon is

probably the closest thing to a single figure who sums up the BR materials.

In general, however, the issue really does boil down to just getting the

name and address of the site out to as many people as possible as often as

possible. That is, after all, the most fundamental aspect of

marketing/advertising. ENWorld is a definitely a good place to get that

stuff disseminated.
