View Full Version : Anyone Want An Archive Of Material From The List?

I'm considering setting up an archive of material that has been submitted to the mailing list / birthright.net forums over the past couple of years so that it is possible to go back through it and view previous creations rather than search the entire forum.

Would anyone be interested in seeing something like this? If you are, then I think I can set something up by the end of the next week. Nothing spectacular, just something along the lines of my old BR page.

I think that would definitely be worthwhile. There`s recently been a

little talk of a sort of e-zine format for such an archive, which I think

would be an interesting way to go, but whatever works as an archive would

be appropriate. You might even ask for contributions from those whose work

you plan to compile on your page.

I was thinking mainly just an archive of material, but I would certainly be taking contributions of new material from anyone that was interested in submitting something, and even posting the odd new thing myself. I've done a bit a searching through the old forum pages and they go back to november 2001, and I might even decide to go through the old mailing list archives back even further to see what I can find. There is a lot of stuff that is just being forgotten and some of it is really good and I don't want to see it lost. I'll see what I can do about it, and post more when I've got something set up.

By the way, love the new Avatar, very nice indeed.. B)

I'd be interested. I find buried treasure when I have the time to search, but often haven't had the time. I'd be delighted to benefit from others enthusiasm for delving and compiling swell stuff.

Thanks. It`s from a painting called _The Homecoming_ and I`m afraid I

don`t know who the artist is since I just found it on-line (if anyone knows

I`d live to find out.) I like to think of it as the Cold Rider, though it

would also make a nice illustration for one of the Magian`s Riders. I

especially like the ironic touch that if one used this depiction for either

of those purposes the figure in it is not mounted....

There`s a decent copy of it (and several others)

Many years ago I played in a campaign in which the DM made extensive use of

photographs and artwork culled from a wide variety of sources. National

Geographic shots of crumbling castles; fantastic close ups of insects and

other strange animals, faces from ethnographic studies and anthropological

documents. Otherwise the DM was kind of a dud--he had a penchant for

linear plotting and do-or-die situations--but I can`t find fault with his

excellent use of visual aids. It made for very dramatic effects on the

campaign, and I`ve always envied/aspired to the completeness of his graphic

presentation. In recent years it`s led to an unfulfilled lust for one of

the expensive 1,000+ lumen projectors and laptop that I get to use for work

to use while GMing in a boardroom sized space with whole wall of dry erase

boards, another wall of RPG materials, and maybe a sideboard with coffee

and snacks.... It`s rather twisted that during some of the seminars I`ve

conducted my mind has wandered from the presentation to muse upon what an

excellent place the room would be to play D&D. If the attendees only knew

I was picturing them in chainmail and hauberks, not to mention the

occasional leatherette rogue or buxom serving wench outfit.... Oh,

well. Someday.

Ian,

Gary and some others asked me to come up with some archive/e-zine idea for BRnet.

I am almost done with a serious content management system.
One of the feature is that the fron page is transformed into a ezine like page. On the back (administration tool) editors can edit/publish/unpublish material posted by users.
Its also possible to put multiple pictures in the text. ...and SEARCH through it!

alot of good stuff has been posted lately, so a system like this seems inevitable.

It says "Jesper Lund -- 2001" in the bottom-right corner of the image...
