Hello everyone, this is my first post. I've been reading through many of the old posts, and my search for the CD ROM game's Adventure Editor has fallen short. Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone has a working link I could go to to download the files. If not, perhaps some of you have it stored on the dusty hardrive of your 166 pentium cpu you left in the garage! Heh, if anyone could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it. I have just started playing this game, and yah yah, its old, but gosh, I really love it. I wish they had made a 2nd version, improved, that I could enjoy, but I must stick with the old stuff, which often is the best stuff :).

Alright, thanks in advance for whatever help anyone can give.

Good Day.

There is no single adventure editor. Sierra made 4 adventure editors to
create outdoor, castle and two different dungeon level-maps for
adventuring. Sierra has them still for download on their ftp site -
however not documented, I searched for hours until I found them among
hundreds of patches and stuff for other games.

If you are on their site, search for Castle01.exe, Castle02.exe,
forest01.exe and under01.exe all are selfextracting files.

However your first priority should be to make sure that you run patch
1.04 of the game as the earlier versions are unstable or refuse to run
with some of the editors (there is also a character editor).

Thank you very much for the fast response! I already have installed the 1.04v patch on the game, and although it seems more stable, it still goes poof on me during adventure mode. I will now proceed to search out the sierra site as you suggested. Thanks again for your help, I truly appreciate it Michael :)

Actually you should use 1.03 or 1.04.

03 was the last official patch, and in some instances it is more stable than 04, but 04 got more tweaks done for play balance, so it can easily be preferable (although the most annoying bug I find is when you get into DM-mode because you have vassalized a country, although you can abuse it to force said country give you all it's holdings and so...)

(Ramble ramble..)

Thank you all again for your speedy replies, though I must say, I'm not having much luck finding the above listed exe files on Sierra's site. I have searched and searched the site, and am coming up with absolutely nothing. Is there any way that anyone knowing the URL could possibly post that for me as well?

Those files cannot be found on the web because they are on ftp...probably forgotten by Sierra people. Michael, do you know the address for Sierra`s ftp?

Sierra's ftp site is surprisingly enough ftp.sierra.com

I'm not sure if the adventure editors would be on there though, as they were never published to the sierra site originally (neither was the 1.4 patch). All were never officially released by sierra, but rather only found originally on a now defunct server created specifically for BR:TGA files.

It´s:
ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/
as far as I remember. From there you´ll have to search for yourself.
However hasn´t Arjan uploaded them somewhere on Birthright.Net?

Hi!
After reading your posts I now want to play this game... I like strategy games and I like Birthright, so it sounds natural! ;)
Can you help me find it?
When it was released I didn't even had a computer (I got my first computer in 98) and I think that it was never released in Brazil...
Thanks in advance!

Don't know if this works, but you can try it if you want:

Hmm... I thought The Gorgon's Alliance was abandonware. But it's not - all I could find was demos.
Grrrrrrr... a game from 96 and it's not abandonware yet. It's almost as old as I!

Nikolai II

Sierra Lawyers are cruel and act strongly against abandonware. Write e-mail to Sierra begging that they should a) Sell it in 'Sierra Classics' packs or B) Let up with the hazing of abandonwarers when they have no intention whatsoever to sell the game again, nor produce anything similar.

edit: Did the Demo whet your appetite?

Well drag me forward in a satanic pushcart, I would've never have guessed..

Try this, if you're serious enough..

edit: £8.50 (46 Reals) total for game and shipping to Brazil, credit card needed, enjoy ;)

You are as old as a game that you think ought to be abandonware?
Does that mean I could demand you to clean my windows as my slave
because you are as old? ;-)

That could be cheaper;)

I'm afaraid my Brasilian Portuguese is rather bad, but 20-30 real (with shipping and fees) is notably less than 46 :P

As for non-Brazilians my suggestion still stands, one might at least compare prices.. :)

Thanks for your help guys! :)

And how could you find it Valerio? I never thought about searching in a brazilian store...

PS: And Nikolai:
1 = real
2+ = reais
In portuguese, normally you can make the plurals by just adding "S". But words that end with an "L" have a plural with "IS".
Not that I think you are really interested in this... :P

I quote myself (or should I say myslef):

I'm afaraid my Brasilian Portuguese is rather bad

But being a nitpicker I'm certainly interested, although I'll likely have forgotten about this simple rule by nightfall.

So... have you bought it yet? :P

So whom exactly owns the rights to the Birthright game? I understand that Sierra made the game (or atleast put their name on it). Didn't some company buy up the rights shortly after. Hense why there wasn't much tech support or patches issued. [Said in a non-offending tone.] The reason why I ask this is because I would like to see a second game come out. Using a 3D engine off the shelf today and better programming, the game might be bug-light.

I have read reviews for the game and come to this conclusion. You either love it or hate it. I have loved it from the day I understood how to play the game. :) I did find the basic and advanced game option too restricting. Though others found the game too complex. Ha, a game that you have to think about your next move or next few moves it too hard for some.

I have personally experienced over 2 dozen bugs in my many years of playing this game. I have never installed a patch though because some bugs are really helpful. I have messed with character editor also to include friends as other regents. Yeah, it's a bit saddening when your friend is no longer there for diplomacy. :(

On to bigger and possibly better things.... does anyone think that a second game will come out? If it requires some underground help then I am in. With the economy the way it is, I might be willing to move also. I wish I had computer game programming skills so I could participate in this undertaking. If I were to attempt such a thing myself, I might use the same map and have it take place a few score years after the Gorgon dies. I would rather use another portion of the Birthright system. I would an extreme hard setting (above the normal Hard setting of 500) to that of 750 or so. Inside the game I would like to see a "Build all roads" tab. ;) Permanent placement for battle status in skirmishes is cool. Maybe even an option to keep viewing on Command view while unit view will be from chase camera. Ouuu and declaring multiple wars is nice since usually more than one regent usually declares war on you.

In adventures I would offer a bit more challenging boards. Including such things like poison traps, runes and the like to spice it up a bit. Monster combos like a red dragon and iron golems (extreme but used only to show an example). Ouuu a gelantinous cube! I love those things. Smarter opponents who come running when they "hear" conflict in another room. Maybe include spawning creatures to replace those that investigate noise in another room. Maybe some opponents run to get more help. And if the PC group is kicking arachnids and taking names then beef-up the next spawned creature.

Your group is adventuring in... let's say the Spider's Lair and pretty much causing havoc without being touched. The next spider that would spawn is a little deadlier than his kin. Regular large spiders might turn into poisonous large spiders who in turn might change to venom spitting large spiders. This would give the gamer an increasing challenge. Add to that a bit of tactics or dirty fighting and those adventures are nothing to laugh at.

Sigh, maybe I am asking too much from an already complex game. For now I will stick to table top play though I haven't found anyone interested in Birthright. We are a select breed of gamers unique by our style of play and our obsessive need for detail. And those people who think Birthright sytem sucks, I tell them to go Google themselves. :D
