I buy the idea that there`s an economy of scale type system built into the
BR system. Larger provinces have more infrastructure to upkeep, more
overhead, etc, with the result that level 10 provinces don`t give you 100
times the income of level 1 provinces. It kind of makes sense.

It makes much less sense for RP. That comes from the masses, and 100,000
people should create 100x the `regency`, power, belief, whatever it is
that RP is, as 1000 people, and it should be collected just as efficiently
as from only those 1000. It`s magical power of some kind. Why doesn`t it
scale linearly?

Simple game mechanic I guess.....most likely they simply didn`t want to have
an "inflation" of Regency Points. Or perhaps, like the gods, regents
require more and more people under them to draw on the higher levels of
power eh?

RP doesn`t scale linearly for the same reason net revenue doesn`t.
Hierarchies are pyramidal. The Eorl of Hjorvaal (NW Stjordvik) may
personally know every resident of his province. As a 0 level province, its
certainly possible. In a level one province, already the direct link
between the lord and the people is seperated by intermediaries. The lord
knows his own sheriffs and they know their own districts. The lord may also
know notables in the villages, the important local peolpe, but he doesn`t
know everyone. By the time we get to a level 2 province, fewer of the local
notables get direct contact with the lord. The lord has more
intermediaries. As we get up to the level 3 and 4 provinces, we start to
have a situation where the lord has no direct local conact, but instead
interacts with a new group of intermediaries. The province ruler has a
large number of lessor nobles, knights, and senior officials who go out and
deal with the lessor officials and local notables. The people themselves
deal with the local notables and minor officials. As we climb to higher and
higher levels of province population, we have to add more and more layers of
intermediaries who in effect siphon off the RP that the ruler would be
getting. This RP is not productive, except in special cases (Great Captain)
where we see RP apparently spent from no where. Most of the time its spent
to advance some petty agenda that has no impact on the greater realm. In
effect the under chancellor may expend it to get an important duty while the
assistant steward bids against him to get the duty for himself. And so
forth and so on.
