In the old [[Language|tongue]] of the [[Andu]], [[Aelvinnwode]] simply means "[[Elf|elven]] wood." Once this vast northern forest was home to dozens of shining elven kingdoms where no [[human]] had ever set foot. Having driven the elves from their homes after [[The Flight from the Shadow|arriving]] nearly 2000 years ago, large tracts of this forest are now farmland inhabited by humans. The only elven realm to survive here is the powerful kingdom of [[Tuarhievel]]. As other elven kingdoms fell to the humans, the surviving elves took refuge there as well as in [[the Sielwode]] and [[Rhuobhe]]. Many still harbor bitter hatred for the humans who drove them from their lands and destroyed their forests.
