Description: Torele Anviras has stark white hair that is full of volume. However, he looks ragged and melancholy much of the time. He also has an unearthly quality about him that makes some men nervous. Torele's body is 173 lbs.

Biography:

Torele Anviras is the Mage of Talinie and the Earl of Freestead.

Once a good-for-nothing scion, given to vice and irresponsibility, young Torele set out on his own and disappeared in the forests. While he was away, his line died out, his homeland changed, and guilders began cutting down the forests, and a war with the elves of Tuarhievel seemed imminent.

A century to the day after he vanished, Torele returned from the woods, appearing not a month older. When Torele had entered the forest so long ago, he had encountered the sidhe scout Fedabhair who at once recognized an untapped potential in the young rake. At first, Torele was attracted to the revelry of the sidhe friends he had developed, but with patience and cunning, Fedabhair and her friends expanded Torele's consciousness and he became a willing changeling. He learned the sidhe way of life, developed a wizard's skill in the arcane, and adopted the sidhe hostility towards the short-sightedness of human perspective, including his own youth. When his companions alerted him to the destruction of the Aelvinnwode in Talinie, he sought to explain to the humans of that realm the folly of their ways. His arrival back in Talinie was not what he expected. He dramatically reappeared, declared himself the Mage of Talinie, and urged a new course in affairs. Needless to say, a new course was not adopted. Perhaps Torele's expectations about what was possible, let alone probable, were not realistic, but bitterness soon became a hallmark of Torele's demeanor as he found humans unwilling to become elves.

He erected a tower in the deepest woods of Freestead, the province to which his line had once been earls of. Once he had done this, the authority of the province slipped back into his hands, and Aodhán Ramsey, the titular earl stepped into retirement, acknowledging Torele as the rightful earl.

Torele seeks the best interests of Talinie from his perspective, but is alienated from the human experience. As well he feels alienated from the sidhe way of life as his time among the humans highlights his distance from the sidhe people. He is considered rude and bad-tempered, but he is largely frustrated by dealing with people who don't understand the problems Talinie faces the way he understands them, and the challenges he faces bridging the gulf between humans and elves. He is also considered melancholy, and he is, because his hope that most humans would respond to his message has been mostly unrealized. People like Siobhan Riedhie who might otherwise be allies are pushed aside because their ideology is not sidhe, but is tainted by other interests and concerns. He is perhaps mostly disappointed by Thuriene Donalls, the Thane of Talinie. She did not embrace the sidhe way of life, did not close down the guilds, and her concern with the guilds is not a mitigating factor because Torele presented his message and was rejected, and things have basically not turned around under her rule. He gives her no respect and even has a certain disdain for her. No one likes Torele, but everyone regards him as an indispensable aid to the realm's defense.
