Time, seasons, and holidays » Festival of Rebirth

The week-long holiday of the Festival of Rebirth begins on the first day of spring. Feasts and dances are held throughout the Sidhelien realms as they celebrate the rebirth of the forest. Work generally ceases during the Festival of Rebirth even for non-elves living within the elven lands. This is the traditional time of the year to announce marriage engagements. Any being living within an elven realm is welcome to participate in this celebration. Halflings from neighboring lands often try to find a reason to be travelling within an elven realm during the Festival of Rebirth.

Enemies of the elves on the other hand often try to take advantage of the elves distraction, while the few Anuirean, Brecht and Khinasi visitors privileged to witness the festival have on occasion been shocked by the festivities – unsurprisingly for a spring festival in a people noted for low fecundity, a strong focus is on reproduction, with wild dances that allow both men and women to dance together (shocking to many Khinasi, and even the Anuireans and Brecht are shocked by the degree of contact the elves deem normal) but as the elves say, human women get pregnant if a human man so much as looks at them, and are then utterly dependant on human men for support while pregnant – so of course they obsess over fidelity and modesty, elven women are both independent and rarely pregnant so have no need of such so-called ‘civilised’ behaviour.
